Introduction and background of characters

The Party

Mike Wheeler (Michael Wheeler)
Mental illness: ADHD, autism spectrum disorder, dyslexia, depression, and anxiety (maybe PTSD)
LGBTQ+ group: transmasc? gays
Head canons: highly functional autism, wasn’t able to read well until 8 years old, writes fanfics sometimes about DnD or Star Wars, shares those fanfics with Will, night owl, and loves playing board games with holly. (Also her babysitter), has strange hyper fixations
TRAUMA: at a young age he was told being gay was bad, the upside down traumatized him. Also seeing Will have a seizure and get possessed that one time traumatized him permanently. MIND FLAYER TROUBLE.

Will Byers (William Byers)
Metal illness(es): OCD, PTSD, and anxiety (protentional suicidal thoughts and SH)
LGBTQ+: Gay
Head canons: bullied relentlessly (sometimes physical) by Troy and James, Lonnie used to abuse him a lot, hates the cold and still feels the mind flayer in him, calls for Mike when he has nightmares, was always scared of parties with alcohol cause he doesn’t wanna be like his dad, used to spend weekends with Lonnie (court supervision), attempted 3 times, and is trying to recover from SH.
Trauma: abused physically and verbally by Lonnie for being a f@g, Demogorgon got him at 12, his mom found him not breathing once (one of the many times he tried to attempt), used to hide a blade in his books, and he still feels the mind flayer.

Lucas Sinclair
Mental illness(es): clinical Anxiety Disorder
LGBTQ+: bisexual
Head canons: has to watch Erica every Sunday while his parents are out, broke his bike once while driving to Dustin’s house and tries to peek through the window of Mike’s basement (to no avail).
Trauma: had to literally watch Max get almost killed by Vecna

Dustin Henderson
Mental illness(es): clinical depression and Anxiety.
LGBTQ+: straight as a goddamn ruler
Head canons: often feels left out now that there are 6 people in the party. (to be decided later)
Trauma: having to watch Eddie die in his arms .
Eleven/Jane Hopper/Ives/Byers (she has too many last names)
Mental illness(es): Anxiety, PTSD, dissociative disorder, Reactive attachment disorder, unclassified and unspecified trauma disorders and attachment issues.
LGBTQ+: Pan and Femme
Head canons: has a hard time letting go of people, scared of loud noises (specifically gunshots, fireworks, thunderstorms and dark cramped rooms). Also she has claustrophobia cause of her past
Trauma: physical and psychological abuse in a laboratory setting, exposure to the Upside Down, and the loss of loved ones. She also grapples with repressed memories and the consequences of her unique abilities. (there are a lot more but i'm sure you know those already.)
Max Mayfield (Maxine Mayfield)
Mental illness(es): depression, anxiety, and PTSD
LGBTQ+: Bisexual and Masc-femme
Head canons: used to picture that Billy was alive (undecided).
Trauma: had to watch Billy get killed by the physical form of the mind flayer in front of her.

Head canons: had a hard time adjusting to Sarah’s death and his divorce that he used to have to live in many different homes for a while. (to be decided)
Trauma: PTSD stemming from having fought in the Vietnam War, and watching his daughter slowly die from cancer
Joyce Byers (Joyce Maldonado Byers)
Mental illness(es): depression and anxiety
LGBTQ+: straight
Head canons: used to have to remain strong for Will and Jonathan from their father’s abuse and drinking problems, Struggling with money but when she gets paid she tries to buy new things for her kids (clothes and shoes etc).
Trauma: disappearance of her youngest son, Will. The death of Bob Newby, Hopper's sacrifice and Single mothership is hard IG.
Nancy Wheeler
Mental Illness(es): depression and anxiety
LGBTQ+: straight
Head canons: used to have to watch over both Mike and Holly when she was younger, and she always thought she had to live up to a ton of expectations from her parents.
Trauma: Blamed herself for Barbara Holland’s death because she didn't go home that night with her.
Steve Harrington
Mental Illness(es): none that I know of.
LGBTQ+: straight
Head canons: had always had a hard time with his parents and is always afraid to let them down. (especially his dad)
Trauma: physical torture, including beatings, injection with a truth serum, and attempts to remove a fingernail. He also experiences the loss of loved ones and witnesses horrific events, contributing to his emotional and psychological struggles.
Jonathan Byers
Mental Illness(es): Anxiety and depression.
LGBTQ+: Bisexual maybe?
Head canons: used to have to take Will and himself to school cause his mom wouldn't be at home to take care of them, and had to shelter Will from the abuse as well as telling Will that none of what Lonnie is saying is true. Used to try to get his dad to stop making Will do things that he doesn't enjoy (even if trying to protect him would get him yelled at or beat)
Trauma: Will’s disappearance, Lonnie forced him to kill a rabbit while hunting.
Robin Buckley
Mental Illness(es): ADHD and Autism
LGBTQ+: Lesbian (very canon)
Head canons: used to get in trouble for talking a lot (me), her family usually doesn't pay much attention to her.
Trauma: grief, trauma from the Russian base and upside down threats.
