Summary
The Upside Down has been destroyed following the fall of 1987, with Hawkins being forced to quickly move on. A year and a half later in the spring of '89, Eleven's new-normal life in Hawkins is upended when she finds herself on the run from a mysterious group with even more unclear intentions. Now with Mike in tow, El is forced to figure out why she's being targeted...and if these people can be defeated.
AKA: The runaway X-Men inspired fic that has everyone's most underrated couple in a bit of a pinch, though some friends may come help.

The year is 1984, and after Ted Wheeler dies because of some stupid lab accident at his annoying government job in Hawkins, Indiana, Thirteen-year-old Mike and his family are forced to move there and stay at some lousy trailer park because 1.) moving there was the closest thing they had to still being with him, not that Mike really cared, 2.) it was the cheapest place his mom could afford when you’re in charge of a family of four with no man in the house, and 3.) because Mike had kinda maybe sorta did something really, really bad to another boy at school that unfortunately just lined up with the time him and his family had to move so… nothing important really.

Summary
When Will was pulled out of the water, Mike didn’t know what to feel. He doesn’t remember much from the funeral later, he already knew that Will was alive by then, but he still felt something bad staring down at the grave below him, the casket being lowered down. Mike feels that same way when he sees Will drop to one knee after they finally beat Vecna. The portals are opening and closing, fizzing out with Vecna’s power. It’s like they’re spasming, and Mike barely has time to take a breath before one swallows Will and everything around him. Blood flies everywhere, enough that Mike can’t see what happened, or what caused it. Then someone’s pulling him to one of the portals that El is holding stable for them to escape through.
“We have to go!” Steve yells, dragging Mike with him.
But Mike doesn’t want to go, he wants to go to Will. But Will’s not there anymore.

Summary
El stood and stared at the wreckage. She’d known it was bad, but this was way more than they’d expected. A whole lot more than she could manage, especially after just escaping Vecna. Defeated, she turned to look at her dad, taking in his tired face, with dull eyes carpeted by heavy bags and new scars he’d amassed since last summer. For the first time since they’d become a makeshift family, El noticed a sense of fatigue she’d never seen in him before, that felt deeper, and had settled into him easily, but crept up on her uncomfortably.

Angst and fluff of the extended party, a few at a time they all end up at Steve's place, but I don't think he has many objections :)
Each chapter will have a different pov character, and diving into some of their struggles, both internally and externally, so some of the chapters might end up being a bit of a character study.
As far as I can tell, none of the things I wanted to include fit together at any point in the shows canon, so I do what I like.

It felt as if this feeling had been around forever, when in reality, it only happened last Spring. Will felt a little pathetic that he was still hung up on something that had happened so long ago.
He hated how much he wanted to go running back to him. Even though he had done nothing but hurt him, he just wanted to sit in the forest with him like he used to. Will knew if he thought he would take him back, he would come running into his cold embrace. But it was futile and he knew it.

He could vaguely hear Dustin yelling in the background, something about not doing it and how he didn’t need baby teeth anyway, but his brain turned it into white static.
