Chapter Text
Scene 1: MJ and May
“You two should do a couples costume!”
I blinked. My mouth may have hung open for a moment. Because there were just no words. Don't get me wrong -- it was nice to see Mom smiling again! Looking back on it, that may have been the reason I didn't shoot her down when I should have.
“We… what?”
“Well, Wes is creative, right?” She stroked her chin. A sure sign of trouble. “You told me he’s an artist?”
“He draws comics. That's not quite the same as making clothes for real people…”
Oh, no. Mom was taking long strides to the back of the house. To the spare closet she’d claimed as her 'studio' since before I was born. And, worst of all, she was laughing.
“Are you kidding? Do you think I just start cutting into cloth when the Spider-Shoppe needs some new items in our latest lineup? You’ve got to plan these things and what better way to start then pen and paper… okay, maybe pencil and paper…”
She stopped to tie up her hair. No, no, no. That meant she was serious.
“I already have a new costume...” I reminded her, wincing at my defensive tone.
“And it's great!” She said with a wave of her hand. “I mean, I never understood why your father put webbing under his armpits, but I accepted it. And I accept that you're doing the same. For some reason.”
“It makes it easier to glide… besides, don't you design Spider gear for a living?”

Scene 2: Reilly and Dormagus
“Look at me. Isn't a costume a little redundant?”
“So don't go as Darkdevil. Duh. The point is to try something different--”
“Besides, Reilly Tyne isn't exactly ‘me’, either…”
“Can't help but feel you're deliberately making this difficult, Batman.”
I smirked. “Maybe a little.”
“Jerk.”
“That’s fair.”
