Chapter 1: Still here

Summary:

Song poem (?) Inspired by "Still here" from The Treasure Planet

Chapter Text

Born from resentment and control,
raised with one-sided truths,
how could I ever learn
if no one has ever taught me
how to not hate myself.

Birthed and held by a mother
whose arms grew weaker
with each breath I took,
I understood what death was
and that I was her's.

I've been used and thrown away
by someone who didn't even know me.
Why am I not loved?
Why am I only worth of hatred and disgust?
The world's cruelty defines me,
but I only want a moment to be real
and feel like I belong here.

I break a little inside
everytime I ask.
But this fire only grows stronger,
not knowing what to claim next.
And I will, most probably,
die consumed by its flames.

These dreams are not my own,
but neither are the insults I hear.
I am not what they see,
they don't understand
that I'm still here.

I live because I was born,
I live without knowing why,
I live for those who hate me without saying it.
I die, on the other hand,
for those who have loved me
without making any sense.

Fire has engulfed me
and, either by pride or stupidity,
the only thing left to see
are my ashes slowly going away,
drifting by the sea.

I have a lot to say,
but such a short time to live.
I have never been more real,
I'll never stop being here.
