For a moment Moblit stands right there in the middle of the corridor, staring at the closed door. He wonders what they’re talking about, and if Hange’s still raving on about her crazy idea. She’s always been full of enthusiasm and fire; he’s never seen her so broken before so he can’t imagine what she’s looking like right now, how she’s acting, or just what shape vulnerability takes on when it settles on Hange Zoe.
Those things are for Levi to see. The door between him and them says that much.

“Wha…?” Heavy eyelids fluttered and she met a set of furious grey eyes complete with a scowl. An expression Levi often wore during the day while dusting her study with unnecessary violence, while dragging her to a bath, or shoving food down her throat when she finally allowed him near her after working on a new hyperfixation for twelve hours straight.
Her facial muscles arranged themselves to mirror his frown.
Because, apparently, it was night right now and this particular expression of Levi’s was catalogued nowhere in Hange’s mental archive of ‘Levi’s Behavioral Patterns and Their Meanings: The Nighttime Guide.’

Summary
In 1972, within the small town of Yomiyama, a middle school student named Levi passed away. Since then, Yomi North Junior High and the whole town has been in the grip of a terrifying curse that befalls upon anyone who's in the same class as Levi was.
Twenty-six years later, unaware of any of that, Hange Zoe transfers to Yomi North from Tokyo and realises her class is keeping a secret from her.
There are a lot of things she cannot understand - from the weird behaviour of her classmates to the mysterious boy called Levi who sits in the last seat, wears an eye patch and, apparently, is only visible to her.
