Zuko is about to be crowned Firelord. He is alone with his destroyed nation. A teenager with too much to handle, who feels like he is already drowning under the pressure.
He takes a moment alone before the ceremony, determined to get his breakdown out away from prying eyes. He had an image to uphold now, after all.
But Zuko needed to get used to the fact that he was no longer alone, and he had a friend who was under just as much pressure as him.

Summary
This is a work of fanfiction that was inspired by Avatar the Last Airbender, specifically the Season 2 Finale. The story follows the Gaang in alternate storyline where Zuko finds the right path sooner. At "The Cross Roads of Destiny" Zuko decides to join Team Avatar after connecting with Katara over the loss of their mothers. Katara sees that Zuko has just been lost up until this point and uses the spirit water on his scar.

Starts at the end of Book 3, Episode 10: Day of the Black Sun and follows the TV series to the end from Zuko's perspective. I've always felt like Aang's firebending training was rushed and cut too short. We also don't get any of the inner turmoil Zuko must be going through with leaving everything behind, so this is my retelling of the second half of season 3 (and perhaps a bit beyond too).

Summary
Fire was an element that either commanded respect or consumed fear. Aelita Kenshin had experienced both feelings during her sixteen years of life. A firebending master reduced to nothing but the hollow shell of what she once was, the Butcher of Ba Sing Se no longer trusted the power beneath her fingertips.

Fire is the element of power. The people of the Fire Nation have the desire and will to achieve what they want. Only time will tell if that power and desire will be too much to handle as the fate of the world is forged in fire.

100 years ago, Fire Lord Sozin lead the Fire Nation into war against the other three nations, completely wiping the Air Nomads off the map and turning his sights to the Water Tribes and the Earth Kingdom. The Avatar, the sole person responsible for the peace of the world, vanished around this time and hasn't been seen since, and many have begun to lose hope that he even still exists.
Aang was never the Avatar. His twin sister, Anya, was saved at birth because she was the Avatar's next incarnation. Now, a hundred years have passed and as the last Airbender, it's his jobs to teach the current Avatar airbending...whoever that may be.
For three years, Zuko has searched for the Avatar at the behest of his father, along with the promise to have his honor returned to him. Desperate, Zuko has put every once of his being into this search, and now his luck seems to be turning around. An airbender - the last in the entire world - has been sighted in the Southern Water Tribe, and Zuko just knows that he knows where the Avatar is - if the nomad isn't the Avatar himself.
Yet he keeps insisting he's not. So if he's not the Avatar, then who is? And what is going on with these damn dreams?
