Alex just needed a place to stay for a little while while he settled in Zuzu City for a job offer. Sam and Sebastian’s place seemed perfect—or at least convenient, when Haley asked Sam, considering they were down a roommate (and rent for the upcoming month). Sam can’t say no. Sebastian definitely can. What Sam didn’t expect was how complicated it would get, quickly beginning to blur the lines between acquaintances, roommates, friends with benefits and something Sebastian is scared to label.

Ever since the new farmer girl arrived in town, Haley started feeling things she never felt before.
It all got worse when Sofia started bringing gifts to her. Every day, she would find herself waiting for the farmer to show up at her door. She pretended to not be affected by it, to not have any interest in the girl. In fact, she was lying to herself, telling her mind and racing heart she just liked to be spoiled. But even if she was brutally honest with the farmer girl — and sometimes just straight up mean — she always came back to her doorstep with a smile.
But it all went downhill when she found out the farmer had been gifting other girls in town. Poppies for Penny, amethysts for Abigail...what once made her feel special, was being shared with others.
All those days she thought she had been warming up to Sofia, being genuinely happy to have her attention, they were all gone in a second. And once the farmer showed up with another stupid sunflower in her hand, Haley couldn't help but feel frustrated.

Alex has always made it a point to mind his own business. He wakes up, works out, heads to the beach, or helps out around the house, then goes to bed. Rinse and repeat, adding the occasional two-hour phone call from Haley updating him on her summer in Zuzu City. If anyone asks, he won’t be here for much longer, onto bigger and better things, like earning a spot on a professional gridball team.
Sebastian isn’t one to open up to people. He has Sam and Abigail, and that’s more than enough for him, seeing as he won’t be in Pelican Town by this time next year. Or, that’s what he tells himself each time someone interrupts his work or makes band practice run later than it needs to. He’s alone, happy, and has no plans to change that.
Until the night Alex catches sight of a light coming from inside the abandoned Community Center, and Sebastian is just crossed enough to let his mind run away with itself.
