Grian fought to breathe around the hand on his throat, pinning him against the wall above the ground, even as his legs kicked and thrashed through its body. He fumbled for the salt his pocket, adrenaline and the lack of oxygen making his fingers clumsy. Black spots swirled in his vision as the hand tightened, and his limbs began to tingle, losing feeling. There were tears pooling in the corners of his eyes from the panic and pain, and he realized with a jolt of horror that there was no way he would be able to get the salt, no way he would be able to escape.
This was the end of the line for him. His limbs went slack as the black spots spread to cover his full vision, rendering him blind. He wasn't even going to be able to see his killer. Just black. His head felt fuzzy, light, and he sagged in the hold of the spirit, still stuck against the wall. He hoped it would destroy his body. He didn't want to hang around as a spirit, not when his company would be his murderer. He'd make a terrible ghost anyway.

Summary
Scar held his breath as he reached for the handle, wrapping his hand around it. He counted steadily in his head, down from three, and when he reached zero, he flung the door open, pointing his gun at the figure inside. It yelped, and the sound was quickly followed by the sound of a gun clicking, just like his. The light stilled, focused from one point on the figure, and Scar swung his flashlight around to see it better.
"…Scar?"
The figure was definitely not a spirit. Too rosy cheeked for that. Not to mention that they wore a strangely familiar face, someone that Scar knew. Strawberry blond hair with a fringe that nearly covered his dark brown eyes, wearing a…janitor's outfit? He was also lowering a silver pistol, tucking it away in his belt.
"Put down the light, you're blinding me. And the gun too, I don't want to die." The figure huffed, and Scar's mind finally clicked. He lowered his flashlight, pointing it at their feet instead.
"Grian?"

The Baron, noticing his gaze, grinned. "You've noticed my display then. I collected it from the rain forests down in Mazatec, tracked it down for its gorgeous feathers. Here, allow me."
He lifted a golden stick from where it was resting against his throne, then stuck it through the bars of the cage, jabbing the poor creature inside. It let out a chirp of pain and immediately spread its bright wings, revealing a miserable looking person behind them, head hung low and strawberry blond hair covering their face. They were wearing what looked like a curtain wrapped around them artistically, but with the cold air coming down over the mountains, they must be freezing. Not to mention that they were from the Mazatec Empire, a naturally warm place.
"It's gorgeous, isn't it?" The Baron withdrew the stick, setting it back down by his side. "One of my finest hunting trophies."
Scar made a non-committal hum, schooling his face into something calm rather than furious over the treatment of what was clearly a human (or close enough to it) being. In only a few short minutes, they wouldn't have to be trapped anymore.

"More or less." Grian shrugs. "So, what do you think? If you want to make quick cash instead of this tedious merchant business of yours, you can join me." He places a hand between them as he persuades.
"Hmm." Scar hums while placing a hand on his chin.
Becoming a pirate, huh?
It doesn't sound quite that bad, actually. He has already heard of many rumors about people earning a lot after becoming pirates. Plus, he can have a better wanted poster than this old thing. Heck, he'll even help the Navy make one.
"How about…" Scar stretches his lips into a cheeky smile as he pauses for dramatic effect. "No?"
"What?" Grian blurts.
A tale filled with adventures, encounters, and shenanigans.
Former merchant Scar unknowingly befriends a Navy captain, co-founded a pirate crew with Grian who’s secretly cursed, got betrayed so he slayed his crewmates, stole their hats, and burned the Flying Jellie to the ground—or sea in this case.

Scar, lacking a last name as well as common sense, was the biggest fool Grian had seen in a very long time. He was shocked that this man, this idiot, was apparently a far traveler before settling in Aqua Town. And that he was one of the original residents. He was also the most insane, most ridiculous man Grian had ever met. It was truly impressive if he managed to get through a day without muddling his words or tripping over his own feet.
But, for all the man’s buffoonery, he was good company. Even if Grian got odd looks as he sat on one of the worn leather barstools and began chatting with the owner. They were probably just freaked out that he could understand what Scar was saying, the man practically spoke in old Disney and Star Wars references.
OR: Grian is friends with Scar, and has no idea how powerful his friend really is.

Summary
Scar is a jaded ConCorp agent on what remains of Earth, dreaming of a life in the stars. He regrets cutting Grian out of his life, but it was the only way to keep him safe from Scar's dangerous line of work. One mistake on Scar's part draws Grian violently back into his life and compromises both Scar's undercover status and the entire ConCorp mission. It's hard to believe that everything he's worked for can come crashing down in the span of one night, but as Scar fights to keep him and Grian one step ahead, and the cracks in ConCorp's story start to show, he's starting to think that maybe Grian is the only person he can trust.
