Although his paintings and sketches became popular after he was presumed dead, no one knew the dark-haired man who appeared in so many of them. Some people speculated that the man was merely a figment of Steve's imagination—a figure that only existed on the canvas. No one even considered the similarities between the man in the paintings and Steve's best friend, James Barnes.

Oh.He sniffs, noise twitching. The masculine pheromones of his best pal fall through the crack underneath. Following it, a sweet twinge of something that is decidedly not Bucky coats the air, sticking to it not unlike epoxy. Suddenly, his asthma seems to start acting up again, seeing as how Steve feels like his breath has been stolen.
Buck is home. Buck is home with some Omega, and they’re having sex in the bedroom.
Steve Rogers, a Beta, accidentally listens in on his best friend (read: roommate and long-time crush) fucking a girl. He has a lot of feelings about it.
The problem? Bucky is an Alpha, which means he can only mate with Omegas. The only thing that could solve this issue would be if Steve's designation wasn't what it seems. But that couldn't happen...right?

“Mr. Barnes,” he said, his voice a low rumble, “I beg to disagree.” Steve was still staring at him, a distant, unrecognizable glimmer in his eyes. Bucky swallowed thickly and brought his glass to his lips, draining the rest of its content in one gulp. It was barely 5 o'clock and he knew it was going to be an unforgettable night.
Or: Bucky Barnes is a respectable wanna-be poet from a struggling working-class family. Suave, handsome Steve Rogers comes from the wrong side of the tracks, with a rap longer than any Bucky’s ever seen. They’re doomed from the start, but Bucky can’t help falling head over heels for him, come hell or high water.
