“We don’t have time for this!” Chris yelled, still determined. He managed to get one hand past Wesker’s lips again and cleared the still accumulating petals from his mouth.

Chris foolishly allowed himself to imagine the escape from the hellhole he was in. He would look in the mirror and run his hand across the raised, ugly scar just above his ribs and the set of two just parallel to it, and remember when death had felt so, so close. He would crawl into bed and swaddle himself in so many blankets that he could sweat out the worst of fevers, or suffocate under the covers. He would relish being able to take in steady breaths that didn’t send waves of agony throughout his upper body. He would do it all if he could just live.
