Summary
The Death-Cast system is simple: when you get the call, warning you that you'll die within the next twenty-four hours, it's a heads-up, one last chance for you to live.
In which two violinists meet through the Last Friend app: Brett, an orchestra concertmaster who's dying today, his life suddenly cut short—and Eddy, a second violinist who has the rest of his life before him.
They grow close to eachother as they live Brett's End Day to the fullest—for the sake of both their hearts, or against—no matter how painful it might be in the end.
(Alternatively, the difference between being afraid of love and being afraid of heartbreak—what starts as an unspoken promise to not fall in love, turning into the smallest and biggest of hopes, and surely into something star-crossed.)

“Fuck it”
He slammed the front door of his new house with no mercy, running to his car and placing the violin and the bag into the back seat. He fumbled with the seatbelt, cursing under his breath. He started the car, looking one last time for any FedEx van approaching his street.
Nothing.He groaned, pressing the accelerator pedal and making it out of his driveway. “I am going to be late, I am going to be late.” He sing-sang, looking out on both of his sides, trying to take a left turn onto the main road.
He felt pissed and annoyed. Now he would receive a “We missed you” note from the mailman and would have to collect the package on his own time.
(He was so lost in his thoughts, that he didn’t see the same FedEx van returning back and stopping in front of his house, with a very stressed glasses clad delivery man looking at his house and hurrying to get out of the van.)

The concertmaster’s eyebrows climbed on his forehead before racking a hand through his hair, flushing a bit.
“Oh. That’s not- I mean- do you want some more wine? Your glass is empty.”
Eddy laughed and he had probably done that more in the hour they had been at this bar for than in the first five years of his marriage.
There was no jealousy left in him for the violinist who had lived Eddy’s dream life - except maybe for the fact that he still had hair.
Brett Yang was brilliant.

A knock on his door takes him out of food-orientated fantasies.
He hopes it’s not the dude next door, drunk out of his wits before 5 p.m, asking if Armanda is there, because Brett has no clue who Armanda is, even after being asked four times. And if she was this dude’s ex-girlfriend, he kind of understands why she’s not around anymore.So he leaves the kitchen and opens the front door with maybe a little more force than necessary.
“Hey. Huh- I’m sorry to bother you, but was that you playing the violin?”
It’s not the drunk from next door.
