Jon stared into the glass of whiskey. He picked it up, swirling it around a few times, watching the liquid ride up the side of the glass, like waves crashing upon the shore. His stare quickly turned into glare, which in turn moulded into a look of defeat as he allowed the glass to drop back to the table.
“Why are we doing this, again?” he asked, glancing back up at Daisy, who simply sighed.

It was a waste of tea, really. But Jon couldn’t tell Martin they didn’t drink tea. That would be rude. Martin took time out of his work day to make tea for each of them. Pouring the tea into the fake potted plant in the corner when Martin wasn’t around was much more polite. Then Martin felt like he was helping Jon. It was important to keep one’s employees happy, and if that meant lying to them, so be it.
They’d been thinking about tea for too long.

Jon sticks a cigarette in his mouth on the first step he takes away from O'Hare International Airport, even though he didn't bother trying to sneak a lighter through customs. He shoulders his way into the 7-11 with it firmly between his teeth, buys the first green BIC he sees, and lights up the moment the door's swung shut behind him. America smells like pesticide and a landlocked mustiness he can't describe. And even as he'd bought his ticket back in Beijing, he hadn't been entirely sure what he was searching for.
OR: Jon's in America. Jon gets MSG sick and calls Martin almost every night. Jon realizes he might be in over his head, in more ways than he anticipated, and finally accepts some help.
