“Where does she think you are?” James asked quietly. His own fingers were mindlessly combing through Regulus’ hair.
Regulus didn’t answer for a while. He didn’t want to think about it, didn’t want to pop the bubble that they had built here. Finally, he gave in and sighed: “Getting potion ingredients.” Certainly not naked in a muggle hotel room with James Potter, he added in his mind. That part didn’t need to be said out loud.
James didn’t respond, and the warm air continued to expand the quiet moments between them.
“Where does she think you are?” Regulus finally returned the question.
James also hesitated before answering, but not quite as long as Regulus had.
“Here,” He said, a matter-of-fact tone lacing the word. “She doesn’t mind, you know. She understands.”
Regulus did know that, but it didn’t make him feel any less guilty. Luckily, his selfishness overpowered his integrity. He would rather die than give up these moments with James, pressed skin-to-skin, feeling safe and warm in ways he never felt anywhere else.
