Joseph rushed out into the night, the cool air slapping him in the face. He took a deep breath, feeling a mix of excitement and nerves. He had been waiting for this moment for months, and now that it was finally here, he couldn't wait to meet their little one.
He saddled up his horses and cart and rode as fast as he could to Shannon's parents' house. The pale sun gave barely any light, Joseph's lantern casting a golden glow over the landscape.
When he arrived, he pounded on the door, shouting for Mrs. Christie and Mrs. Jenkins to come quickly. Mrs. Christie opened the door, her face sleepy but concerned.
"What is it, Joseph?" she asked, her voice tight with worry.
"It's Shannon," Joseph replied, his face set with urgency. "The baby's coming."

Shannon nodded, but her eyes betrayed her worry. Joseph could see the fear lurking in their depths, and it tore at his heart. He wanted to reassure her, to tell her that everything would be okay, but he knew that he couldn't promise that.
Instead, he pulled her into a tight hug, holding her close as the wind howled outside. "Keep watch on everything for me," he whispered, his lips against her ear. "And I'll bring back all the supplies we need. Just stay safe and warm in here, and I'll take care of everything else."
Shannon nodded, her arms wrapping tightly around him. "I'll be here, waiting for you," she said, her voice muffled against his chest.

Finally, after what felt like an eternity, Joseph slowly came to. He blinked his eyes open, taking in his surroundings with a confused expression. "Oh yeah, the bed," he groggily mumbled. "Sorry Shannon, I didn't think..."
Shannon's face flashed with anger, her cheeks growing as red as her curly hair. "That's right, you never think, Joseph Donnelly," she snapped, her voice tart with annoyance. "You just barge in here, take over the bed, and expect me to accommodate you. Well, let me tell you something, Joseph. This is my bed, and I won't be pushed out of it by your lazy, lumbering self."
