Summary
After years of turmoil, married life on Deep Space 9 is almost too peaceful for Ambassador Garak and Doctor Bashir, forcing them to wonder if they've become addicted to crisis. Their quiet routine is interrupted when an old friend arrives with a desperate plea: a mysterious toxin is destabilizing a sensitive region, threatening to escalate into a new war. The emergency arrives just as Bashir is thrown into a challenging new role—not as a lone genius, but as a mentor to a team of young medical residents, testing the limits of his patience and his principles. Meanwhile, Garak must navigate a diplomatic minefield, learning to balance the slow, frustrating work of negotiation with the familiar efficiency of his old spy methods. Forced to confront escalating tensions, and their own personal demons of jealousy and hubris, their ultimate test becomes learning to fully embrace the life they have chosen, in all its quiet joys and terrifying storms.

Summary
“Garak’s primary mission, at least in this moment, is to elicit a somewhat baser behavioral outlier. Thankfully, he knows exactly how to tug the threads that will make Dr. Bashir abandon all intellectual and moral pretense. He knows exactly what hides in Julian’s center: pure, selfish need.”
When Garak picks up a coded transmission referencing a mysterious weapon being developed by the Cardassian Union and the Dominion, he and Bashir are tasked with infiltrating a (supposedly) decommissioned kemocite refinery to discover more.
Their mission starts to fall apart when it becomes apparent that the Dominion aren’t involved at all... and that Cardassia’s best chance at freedom lies in Julian Bashir’s unmaking.

Everyone is always wondering what Garak that caused him to be almost killed and exiled when he escaped. It starts with my take on what he did along with rewriting episodes so I can add in characters and change a few things I didn't enjoy. Here's to a long fic and carpal-tunnel.

“How vain,” Garak says, shaking his head and slipping another finger in. “How do you know I don’t make similar garments for all my clients?"
“You don’t,” he groans, “want all your clients the way you want me.”Garak puts Julian in a sexy little outfit. They fuck. That's about it.

Commander's log, Stardate 46395.2
<...>
And then there is Doctor Bashir. I have previously registered my concerns over having an Augment on staff, even if he does come with a commission from the Bajoran militia. Furthermore, I am not entirely convinced he is happy about being back under even nominal Federation authority and I have concerns that I may be looking for a new CMO sooner rather than later.---------
A single life choice can change a lot about a person's journey, but sometimes the end point is the same, even if the path taken to reach it is different. An alternative way for Julian Bashir to end up CMO on Deep Space Nine, without the pretence of being a normal human being.
It's not easy, even if his Bajoran colleagues respect him professionally, they only tolerate him personally. His Starfleet colleagues are wary at best, distrustful at worst. And the closest thing he has to a friend is an exiled Cardassian, a fact he has to reconcile with the bitter experience of the Cardassian occupation.

“That’s right. And I’ve got a proposition for you all. It’s a big ask, I know, but I’ve been thinking about it since they locked me away. I want to start a magazine of our own. I’m calling it Defiant.”
“A new magazine?” Kay breathed.
“The kind of magazine that’s not afraid to publish stories about Negro captains and strong heroines,” said Benny. “One not beholden to the likes of Pabst and the owners. We’d be the owners.” -

Garak hadn't planned on making friends during his exile, much less anything more. It's messy, unpredictable and what was he even thinking about, getting attached like that? Then there's also the question if it's all just in his head...

Summary
Julian understood what he was meant to do now, knew the long trodden steps of the dance the two of them had been following since they’d met. He was supposed to get flustered and babble some nonsense while putting as much space between them as possible. Instead, he cocked an eyebrow.
While bunkering down to wait out a tornado, things change between Garak and Bashir.
