promise(Moravia).He was pale, and younger than Erik had expected; mousy-brown curls peeked out from beneath his sallet and coif, tips glued to his fair cheeks with sweat. He had eyes as the colour of pitch and a round, clean-shaven face, jawline cushioned with enough fat to make him look almost fatherly.

Isterik Week 2025 Day 2 prompt: lessons /
shadows (Vranik)‘No, my boy, not at all. A stupid boy would not put in half the effort you do into trying. Any fool can see you’re fighting your hardest.’ He stroked the boy’s hair with one palm, as Erik’s tears soaked into his shirtfront, hands fisted in the material as he buried his face in Ištván’s shoulder. ‘I am proud of you, dear boy. Few would persevere in the face of such difficulty.’ He smiled wryly. ‘Mind you, I knew how stubborn you were from the moment I attempted to send you away, so perhaps I shouldn’t be so surprised.’
Ištván takes in a small boy after the siege of a village in Moravia. Upon taking the boy as his page, he realises whilst teaching the boy to read that Erik is dyslexic. A character study in Ištván as a father figure before and then during Erik's development of romantic feelings for him.

Erik, like many of the common people, had little to no formal education at first. When he was a child, his mother told him he was blessed by God for being born an alpha, but she couldn't say why.
But Erik wasn't blessed. He was born a peasant, with neglecting parents who as soon as he managed to grab a shovel, started to make him work under the hot sun.
One day, Erik asked Ištván what being blessed meant. By the time the boy was still learning how to read, but wasn't confident enough to read something on his own, so Ištván helps him.

Erik's shoulders, back and part of his chest were covered with scars. Long slashes and a few small stab wounds. Nothing unusual for a man who carried a sword at his side at all times. What made Klára swallow hard and Ištván bite his lip were the fresh thin lines. Four thin lines ran from his shoulders to his collarbones, and down his back, across his shoulder blades to his hips. Some of the lines were bloody. They left a path marked by scabs.

Erikova ramena, záda a část hrudi byly pokryty starými jizvami. Dlouhá sečná zranění a pár drobných bodných ran. Nic netradičního pro muže, jenž nosil meč neustále po svém boku. To, co co přimělo Kláru polknout na sucho a Ištvána kousnout se do rtu byly pravidelné tenké rýhy. Čtyři tenké pruhy se táhly od ramen po klíční kosti a na zádech přes lopatky až po bedra. Některé rýhy byly až do krve. Zanechaly za sebou cestu vytyčenou strupy.
”To musela být pořádná bitka!” ukazovala na jizvy se zvyšující se zvědavostí. ”S kým ses pral?”
