Summary
Langa’s name had become a curse on his tongue, wisps of jealousy curling around it as it rolled off Reki’s tongue. It never seemed to escape his mind, always taunting him, a constant reminder of what he should’ve been.

Reki struggles with inferiority and has a very very shitty way of coping with it, good thing there's a pretty blue haired skater boy to kiss him better.

Reki made sure to keep his smile bright, squinting his eyes to mimic the way his smiles used to reach his eyes. When he was able to smile out of pure, genuine joy, instead of to keep up appearances of just that.
He must have not been as good as he thought he was though.
“Reki…stop that.” Reki’s mother frowned. What is that look on her face? Reki could only recognise it as pity.

He’s staring at Langa. He’s cutting through the water like a knife. Cold, sharp, and heartless. It would be beautiful if it weren’t so tragic.
Something in Reki’s chest begins to ache, something he cannot name. It’s almost as if he focuses on the long strokes of the Canadian, he sees him pulling through the frigid waters of the arctic. As if the glaciers split just for him. As if it’s snowing indoors. He blinks and the moment’s gone. Langa slams his hand against the wall, well ahead of Hiromi. He slings off his red and white swim cap, shaking the water out of his long hair. When he looks up at the crowd, he’s looking at Reki.In which Reki loses everything, learns to exist, loses everything again, and then learns to live and love.

Reki has spent his whole life just trying to survive, too scared to show emotion or cry around the people who made lock it all away. Running away should’ve been easy if it meant freedom—right? But, unfortunately for him (and because I like writing angst), the past isn’t so easy to escape. Taken in by Kaoru and Kojiro, he struggles to accept the care they offer, haunted by the fear that it’ll all be ripped away. As he fights to suppress the pain of his past, his body begins to fail him, and he starts to spiral. But no matter how much he tries to lock it all away, the truth is catching up to him. reki placed his screwdriver down as he moved closer to langa grabbing him by his shoulders and shaking him a little too violently out of pure excitement at this new epiphany he had.
"langa! dude you're such a genius!" he exclaimed and langa was already very confused and definitely dizzy from reki shaking his body
langa grumbled as he gently pat reki's arm so that he'd get the cue to let go and reki did let go of langa at that but he didn't seem any less excited, langa was still confused to what was going on.
"holy shit you are right!"
"right about what?"
"my specialty!" reki said with a biggest grin ever "is being a mechanic!"
(in which reki learns about his true potential when it comes to skating and langa stays by his side throughout the process)
