Summary
Every tenth month of the year, hundreds of malicious and famished souls are released from the depths of the ethereal plane and released into the world of Avantris.
They haunt the material plane and any worlds adjacent to it, spreading horros and anguish over thousands of innocent humanoids and creatures. These misfortunate ones can feel their grasps on their souls, tormenting them with mental, spiritual and physical pain, driving them into near madness, yet barbarically barely keeping them from breaking, keeping them sane enough to witness and process it all, just to be another victim the following year.
The word "mercy" is foreign to them, only one word is present in their minds:Feed. Feed on their suffering, their terrors, until their gluttonous, wrathful souls are sated.
This year shall be no different.

“I am certain that you have an emergency termination button,” Leboosh says, “Rett would attend to this.” Hank offers him a whuffle that’s more cooling fan than speaker system, and thumps his tail against the navigator’s seat in a rhythm not dissimilar to the heartbeat that does not run through either of their frames.
Space. The end stretches so far away that you might have to find a word stronger than infinite to describe it. Leboosh can find no words or strength to describe himself after the death of his friend, but time will tell their tale as it does to all of our ends.

It was slightly off center and lit poorly due to the flash, but it was still clear. Pyke and Rett, in front of the podium of the tiny venue, locked in a passionate embrace.
The sight both warmed Pyke's heart, and stopped it cold.
"You're right, Dandy!" Chuckles exclaimed, thrusting his own champagne upwards – which, despite having come from the same bottle, had inexplicably turned into root beer. "To Pyke and Rett! For taking one for the team and putting on that ol' ball and chain!"

Kavir would laugh if he saw you hesitate. Kavir will never laugh again. You smash through the door with your fist clutching the door knocker shaped like a spider.
Space. Most of the endless expanse is jet black, with rays of light traveling unfathomable distances for the faintest chance of meeting our eyes to mean something. Here's a classic philosophical question: do colors only shine where we look? Do stories only exist when they're told? Doors, at least, only open after a rapped knock.
Leboosh makes more of a squelching sound.
