"Eddie’s hand reached forward to brush back a loose strand of hair from Buck’s forehead where Carla had ruffled it. For a moment, Buck was struck with envy, wishing he could feel the sensation. It was a bit ridiculous, he thought, to be jealous of your comatose self. Eddie’s hand moved down and slowly interlocked fingers with Buck’s limp hand.
As Eddie’s hand closed around his, Buck felt something like a quick burst of energy run through his body. Eddie’s breath hitched and Buck wondered if he felt it too."

Eddie finally looked up. “I saw your face. In that video. I heard you scream my name like it was the only word you knew.”
Buck’s jaw clenched. “You were under the ground, Eddie.”
“I know,” Eddie said gently. “But it wasn’t just that. You were ready to dig until your hands gave out. Bobby had to pull you off the dirt, Buck. And you didn’t stop crying.”
Buck blinked, and for a second, his eyes glistened with something Eddie couldn't name yet. “So?”
“So,” Eddie said after a moment. “I think that’s what love looks like.”

“Yeah?” Eddie blinked.
“Unless you got a problem with that,” Buck offered, a challenge was back behind his grin. Eddie loved this, he always loved this. The moments between him and Buck where they pushed each other, challenged each other, cornered the other while refusing to back down. It fueled Eddie with a giddy excitement, sparking his nerves despite the dulling effect the alcohol had on his body.
He smirked and held out his bottle, “You’re on, Buckley.”
