Summary
It has been three years since the fall of Calamity Ganon and peace has been restored to Hyrule, along with a vernal relationship between Princess Zelda and her Hero of Time, Link. However, when Link suddenly disappears, Zelda turns to the Goddess, Hylia, for answers. What she receives is devastating news. Link has been sent to another world, in a deep slumber, awaiting the time when he will be needed yet again. Zelda, unable to bear his loss from her side, asks for one thing. The chance to find him, no matter the cost, and the cost for World Walking is a hefty toll to pay. She must now traverse between worlds, searching for HER Link, all the while being careful not to alter the course of history for the citizens of those same worlds. But time is running out with each and every hour she spends in each world, she begins to lose that which she holds most dear to her. Will she be able to find the one she loves in time?

Post Majora's Mask, Link struggles with the aftereffects of his his adventures (read: trauma) as he searches for something to anchor himself to and peace enough to settle down.

You don’t know how long you were gone.
It was three days, and three days, and three more, on and on and on again because what circle ends? Same days, different details, same faces, different actions, all over again and again and how many was it now? How long has it truly been? You lost count a long time ago.
It doesn’t matter; you made it out, hip heavy with masks and time marching on, and everything is linear. Everyone is alive, there is no more existential danger, no one is hurt or suffering or looping…and the sun is bright with summer.
And you find yourself simply existing.
You’re there but the Lost Forest doesn’t call you kin. You’re there but the Castle is too full of people and noise and…you can’t bear to look Zelda in the eyes too often. You’re there but the road feels hollow as it used to. There’s too many places to be, too many footprints left by a you that doesn’t exist anymore, too many knowns and unknowns that you just simply exist.

“Don't you dare touch her," Link snarled, and struggled to move in his bonds. The rope was tightly wound around his torso and fixed him to one of the chairs in the living room. His wrists were starting to go numb, but he paid it no mind – he only had eyes for the red-haired woman in front of him and the knife to her throat.
Link has made a life for himself. He is retired from hero-work and no longer goes on adventures. But that doesn't mean the world isn't a dangerous place. One day, danger finds Link and Malon at Lon Lon Ranch, and Link is faced with the fact that he might lose everything.
