He arrived a little late at Exegol, which caused a sequence of unexpected things to happen. Nothing stays as it was.
Not long ago, Kylo Ren wanted Rey to turn to the dark side of the force and rule by his side as his visions showed him. But now that this is a possibility, he's discovering that as a dark side user, Rey doesn't want to be by his side. She was destined to be a Sith and to do so she needed to kill him.
It seems that history repeats itself. Skywalker is a fool in love, Palpatine is a manipulative greedy.
But maybe Ben Solo and Rey Nobody can still change everything. -

He caught her wrist as she turned to make her exit. "Hmm," he cocked his head. "In the spirit of giving, I'll offer you the same kindness."
Now he had her attention, her head snapping back to his. His eyes lowered to meet hers, poorly concealed malice and rage present in his revealing ocher eyes.
"Always pay attention to your surroundings, Rey." That familiar mocking smile snared his lips. "Because you never know who might be watching."
