The three of them had been through hell together, literally - saving the world, rebuilding it, fighting side by side more times than Mira could count. Zoey and Rumi loved her. They were best friends, soulmates on a platonic level. She knew that. But it didn’t stop the lonely, hollow feeling that curled up in her chest whenever she caught them sneaking touches or sharing glances. It wasn’t even jealousy - at least, not in the traditional sense. She didn’t want to take Zoey away from Rumi, or Rumi from Zoey. It was raining the night Celine lost her life, though she was still breathing despite it.
Death came shaped like vermin. The mass of it small, nestled between unmoving legs and soaked grass, yowling like it dared to imitate her grief.
Celine should have pretended it was gone like it’s mother. It would have been easier to bury two bodies under the Old Tree and silently grieve. It would have brought her peace.
She didn’t deserve peace. So picked it up. With the rain muddling her vision, it almost looked like an infant.

Mira and Zoey feel an intense connection, both with each other and with Rumi. But she's not letting them in. Even as their lives change as they become Huntrix, become demon hunters, Rumi supports them every step of the way but she still isn't fully opening her heart up to them the way they do with her, and the way she clearly wishes she could in turn. Something's holding her back.
And it hurts.

These chapters take place immediately after the Idol Awards and the events of Namsan Tower. Basically I just let my brain go WHAT HAPPENS NEXT and wrote it down. I also misremembered the end of the movie and thought the Idol awards were AT Namsan Tower and that the Saja Boys interrupted it. So... let's just pretend. Title and chapter names to be fixed later. Relationship tags are aspirational, we'll see where this goes. My first fic in a solid decade so hope you don't hate it!
