Summary
The red lights outside the club buzzed faintly, their glow spilling across the cracked pavement. Ming Fan leaned against the doorway, arms folded, face carefully painted into a smile that didn’t reach his eyes. Another long night. Another stranger’s hand pressed into his pocket with crumpled bills. He had long stopped thinking about how far he had fallen.
“Ming Fan?”
The voice froze him in place. Too familiar. Too sharp against the fog of smoke and chatter drifting from the club. He turned, heart thudding.
There, across the street, stood a man in a tailored coat, hair glinting beneath the streetlight. Luo Binghe. His old classmate and best friend Luo Binghe. The boy he had once skipped classes with, shared lunches with, laughed with until his stomach ached. Now a grown man, confident, steady, staring at him with disbelief etched across his features.
“…Binghe?” Ming Fan’s voice cracked on the name.

Summary
Ming Fan has a qi deviation after Luo Binghe gets on his last nerve and remembers his past lives. Realizing he's just a side character unable to affect the fate of their world, he gives up on trying to change it. He won't even look at Luo Binghe, let alone antagonize him. He stays in his room when he can and even asks to leave the sect. Believing its theirs--but especially Luo Binghe's--fault, the Qing Jing Disciples set out to make Ming Fan want to stay.
A.K.A. Ming Fan realizes he's just a cannon fodder side character and gives up, not knowing that giving up was the one way he could change the narrative of their story.
