This is a really, really nice "feel-good" post-Mark of Cain fic with super sweet Destiel progression; the smut starts in chapter 5 and I gotta say, it's pretty great smut lol!! I wish this hadn't ended where it did though because it would have been awesome to read even more about their futures!

“Well, yeah,” Dean said, glancing over at Sam. Was it this easy? Just ask an angel what the meaning of life was and he tells you the biggest secret in the universe?
“The answer is love,” Cas repeated. “Every human is put on this earth to give and receive love. Not necessarily romantic love, but to learn to love themselves and to love one another. That was my Father’s plan.”
“Love?” Dean pressed, unable to hide the skepticism in his voice.
“Dean, true fulfillment starts from within. When humans love themselves, they become most capable to love others. When you love others, you begin to change the world.”
Love, Dean thought. Why would Cas lie? He wouldn’t. So if that’s the truth, the God’s-honest Meaning of Life, Dean needed to work with this information. True fulfillment starts from within. Well that was the kicker, wasn’t it? Dean was at a complete and utter loss concerning what actually gave him fulfillment, let alone joy. So he decided that he needed to spend some quality time addressing this issue.

It was great seeing a fic take place in the same AU as "It's a Terrible Life" since the idea of Sam and Dean starting their hunting career after they've grown up apart and with different lives is so intriguing. The descriptions of Cas' body and powers are really cool - it would be awesome to see more art detailing his scales! The ending was wrapped up nicely (and quite cleverly) as well. This is one of my most favorite creature!cas fics out there!

Notes to self: At this point, author has also not marked this series as being "Complete." 07/06/18
Part 1: Cas has decided to remove his Grace because he no longer wishes to be affiliated with heaven. A then human!castiel, human!cas permanently moves into the bunker, forcing Dean to come to terms with his feelings for him. Unfortunately, Dean is pretty bad with these said feelings and there ends up being a lot of petty arguing and awkward tension. I was really glad with how determined Cas was with making sure Dean knew how serious he was about staying though (and not letting Dean run away after their first encounter lol). Sam is also pretty observant too ;)
Part 2: Crappy TV, Dr. Sexy and a new step in their physical relationship: a blow job.
Part 3: First time penetrative smut, Dean becomes more honest about what he truly wants (bottoming) and Sam officiall finds out in the cutest way that Cas and Dean are for sure together. Hooray for no more sneaking around and finally sharing a bed together every night (though at the end of this Part, but still!).
Part 4: So much smut!
Part 5: Good grief at the sexual tension that builds and builds during this part! Luckily they're finally able to let of a little steam in an office building...
Part 6: Cas strives to learn even more about what Dean REALLY likes when they're together.
Part 7: Panties!
Part 8: Dean and Cas deal with multiple examples of homophobia. This is the part where a bamf!castiel, bamf!cas punches the homophobic sheriff, which results in some seriously hot car sex! Charlie is an absolutely wonderful friend here too and gives some great advice that helps Dean start embracing his life (sexuality) without reluctance. Dean also has a little bamf! moment too towards the end!
Part 9: It's finally acknowledged and smart dom/sub time! The author does a great job depicting how not only Destiel approach this topic, but how any relationship should discuss this subject = trust, trust, trust! dominant!castiel, dominant!cas, submissive!dean
Part 10: The boys and Charlie have a nice time (that also turns quite sexually tense) at a gay bar.
Part 11: Time for a Greek vacation!

Love these fics. So freaking sweet with just the right amount of smut (the author said Part 1's was their first time writing smut, but I would have never guessed that!) and only a little (well...maybe more than "a little" aka whoa Part 3) drama. Castiel's determination to stay with Dean (both by having more than just a nice, long weekend and also after Dean's panic attack) in Part 2 was a relief too! Castiel's family actually ended up being really cool as well.

I have a lot of respect for this author because of how strongly I reacted to certain characters and scenes due to their writing - I would have never guessed that this was their first fanfic. This was a really, really powerful story.
Notes to self (Spoilers): Omg the end of Chapter 01 is so embarrassing, but so funny. In fact, there are a ton of funny sayings throughout this series that the author provides. Words of the day: "bacchanalian"- per Google, "characterized by or given to drunken revelry; riotously drunken" and "dipsomania"- "alcoholism, specifically in a form characterized by intermittent bouts of craving for alcohol." Charlie Bradbury is the most bestest, wonderful friend ever and as of Chapter 04, I want to kick Sam in the nuts. Destiel smut begins in Chapter 07 even though there's smut with Benny in chapters before that. One of the road trips starts in Chapter 09; I'm glad there starts to be some of Cas' POV included in the fic after this too. We mostly learn what happened to Mary in Chapter 11 (but don't get the full story until Chapter 25, 26 & finally 29) and what's wrong with Sam in Chapter 12. Holy shit at the massive bombshell in Chapter 19 and Ellen is such a BAMF in Chapter 20. That being said, Chapters 20-24 gave me anxiety and thank God for Bobby at the beginning of Chapter 23. I also can't freaking stand Lisa (again, kudos to this author's writing) and Chapter 29 further cements the fact that John is a huge freaking POS. The end of the main fic then wraps up with such fluffy hope and happiness - I hope the author will add more timestamps to the series because I keep wanting more and more of this 'verse.

The progression of this Destiel was very sweet, honest and doesn't take too long to start at all. Dean was actually not really bad with his feelings and they both had a clear (albeit frustrating for them because they missed each other greatly when apart) understanding as to why Cas couldn't be at the bunker. When Sam finally finds out about his possession and fights with Dean about it, Cas ended up helping with the resulting angst immensely. As great and fluffy (with smut yay) over the first half of this fic is, shit hits the fan after chapter 08 though. However, in spite of any heavy angst there's more than enough positive (and quite good smutty) moments that end up resulting in an absolutely wonderful ending. This is definitely one of the best season 09 fix-its out there! Kudoskudoskudoskudos!Sorry for so many Bookmarker's Tags and Notes too! “I’m so sorry you had to go through that,” Dean interrupts him, clearly angry at himself, like he always is when something bad happens, no matter what or who is the true cause of the problem. “I should’ve found you earlier, should’ve brought you…” He trails off.
“To the bunker?” Castiel finishes the sentence for him. “You know Ezekiel would have only asked you to drive me away, just like he did when you actually found me.” It still hurts, but much less now that he knows the reason behind it. It’s easier to understand and cope with what happened when he knows Dean sent him away because of Sam’s safety, even if it’s a reminder that Dean will probably always put Sam in front of everything and everyone else. But that’s just how Dean is, it’s who he is, to some extent, and Castiel has accepted it long ago.

It should have been a simple thing, to persuade a mer to give him a few scales for a spell. All part of the usual Winchester byline: saving people, hunting things.
But Castiel is far less of a ‘thing’ than Dean expected. He might not be human, but he’s definitely a person.

Awesome fic writer and beautiful/excellent/gorgeous fanart by lizleeships!
This was absolutely wonderful and though I'll always trust this author's judgment, I still really appreciated the reassurance at the beginning that the angst wouldn't prevent a happy ending. Said angst (necessary to the storyline indeed) felt fairly brief for the most part and not hard to read through because of Cas' resilience and Dean's determination to help. Also, Dean actually giving therapy a shot = awesome. I mean, this fic had so, so much Destiel stuff that I love to read: creature Castiel, awesome fanart, sweet (mostly since some of Castiel's recovery was ouch, bless him) hurt/comfort, Dean not being bad at feelings, mental health appreciation, cabins and beaches, magic, soul bonds, Cas' handprint, excellent smut scenes that were truly meaningful...yes. The ending was so happy indeed! KUDOS

One of my favorite fic writers!
This was EXCELLENT - I love how Dean and Cas instantly gravitated towards each other and how it didn't feel to me like there were any awkward "personal space" moments because they both were so OK with being close. Dean actually dealing with feelings for the most part and then Cas' emotion hurt/comfort when it's too much made any angst actually draw me in more because their love was so meaningful (and the resulting cuddles were so sweet). The angels were actually really cool too and it was refreshing seeing an AU where they were actually really supportive of Cas becoming so attached to Dean (like holy crap, I actually liked Naomi). And then Michael and Lucifer not being interested in an Apocalypse? Yes! Our boys also end up being total BAMFs and the "Happily Ever After" that we're left with made me want to read so much more about their happy future together because they really, really were incredibly cute together.

"Dude, I most DEFINITELY liked this...like...yessss!! It's such a great idea that I actually wish canon had utilized. I mean, if Dean is the Righteous Man and can be the Vessel of a friggin' Archangel, why shouldn't he be able to utilize Grace without completley becoming an Angel (just like how Sam didn't completely become a demon)? I think the writers knew this but didn't address it because it would have been "too easy" and of course had given our boys a win for once. Why not though, right??? They deserve it and I think (and really, really hope) that if you write more, I totally see how you could expand on this positivity (and give them the happiness that the canon series finale totally fucked up, LOL). That smut too tho - HOT DAMN. Grace-sharing is always a favorite trope of mine!"I did use the "Self-Harm" tag, but luckily it wasn't for negative reasons!

Fic rec on Reddit by u/DefNotAmelia_Pond from r/destiel
Dean’s internalized homophobia was not difficult to read through because he wasn't a dick about it and Cas handled it really well. In fact, I can see canon Dean reacting this way and there being a truly lovely outcome, just like in this fic!
There's a few cases scattered throughout the fic, but they aren't all really long, which is nice. I like this because it stays true to who our boys are at their core, but keeps the fic's main focus on Dean and Castiel's growing relationship.
Any angst that occurs is necessary to the fic's plot and is resolved excellently too (and quickly, tbh). The slow burn/build isn't excruciating either!!
