“Castiel Novak liked Dean Winchester more than he liked the number eight, and hated being away from him more than he hated flies.”
Dean Winchester has never stopped being haunted by the demons his father woke in him. He grew up believing that suffering was the only reason he was put on this earth, and even as an adult, his mind still likes to play that trick on him. Now, he and his brother think they’ve finally found a place they can call home: a small psychiatric clinic in rural Kansas, where they take things one day at a time and care for people who’ve been through days just as bad as theirs.
Castiel Novak carries a weight that was never his to begin with. He’s convinced that anyone who loves him won’t survive it. Admitted with diagnoses of ASD, OCD, and PTSD, Castiel believes he’s going to spend his last days trapped between the white walls that surround him.
But when a quiet, mutual fascination grows between the flower-crowned nurse and the patient with a hyperfocus on bees, both of them are forced to revisit the uncertain paths of faith—and slowly discover that some flowers really can grow in dry soil, and that not all bees have stingers.

A muscle in Dean’s jaw rippled, “We don’t deal with humans, that’s what the cops are for!”
“Dean…” Sam admonished softly, looking stricken.
Dean blinked, stunned by his own words. “I mean…I didn’t mean –“
Castiel swallowed, closing his eyes against a lance of pain in his chest that had nothing to do with the binding or the sigil. “Yes, you did. And its true, in any case.” Castiel gave him an out, but the words stung. He wasn’t human. Which meant he was – in a hunter’s mind – a creature.
An animal.
Something inside him felt like it was icing over...

After the Empty took Castiel, Dean pushed everything he felt inside a Very Secret, Very Closed Box in his head and swallowed the key. The Box had been intact and hermetic for two years in its corner of Dean’s mind, and because of that, Dean had been able to stay sane and focused. More or less.
But now, with Cas back, with every day they didn’t talk about what's between them, the Box is starting to leak.Castiel isn't complaining, far from it: He has a roof over his head, good shower pressure and food. He’s so grateful he’s afraid. Because he believed to have all those things once before, human and lost and confused, only to have the rug pulled under his feet.
And there’s the fact that, the last time he died, he carved his heart out for Dean to take, and the hunter hasn’t said anything about it.
Maybe that’s as good an answer as he’s going to get.Series

Dean “Cowboy Chaser” Winchester is a storm chaser known for having the best footage of the tornadoes that descend upon Tornado Alley, in the heart of the Midwest, every spring. He's built a tank--The Imp--from a 1967 Chevy to ride into the storms. His brother is normally his chase partner, but Sam is on bed rest and Dean needs help. He can’t survive and make a profit on his own. Things aren’t looking well until an injured man stumbles into the laundromat.
After some stitches, sandwiches, and stain remover, Dean offers to hire Castiel as his assistant for the storm season. It’s more than he’ll ever make at the gas station. Castiel just has to worry about runaway livestock, dangerous storms, and the nightmares he still can’t escape from the worst day of his life.
Will Castiel take this incredible offer? If he does, will they be able to work together and survive what Mother Nature can throw at them?

Ten years later, right after blacking out on that rebar, Dean wakes up in a dusty, rotten hotel room.
It doesn’t take him too long to find out that he's in what looked like 2014, but not the 2014 he lived in. It’s the 2014 that’s not supposed to exist.

“You gotta look at me, man,” Dean pleaded.
But the darkness had begun to creep in like the weaving of vines, wrapping around his eyes. Cas tried to look at Dean, only to realise that he was unable to. “I can't,” was the last thing he uttered before the tenebrous thorns caught onto his skin and dragged him away for slaughter.
