Summary
The first real storm Izzy weathered was like this. A tiny ship, dwarfed by black-green pillars of clouds, like mountains of churning darkness; dead sky-jellies that rained down on deck like stinging hail. Then the wind hit. They’d lost three linesmen that day. Izzy hadn’t even noticed. He’d frozen. The sky, endless, vast, unknowable, pinned him in place, and he’d understood, suddenly, how small he really was. How small they all were. How futile. How alone. Decades later he still feels that sick, ringing dread every time the sky dims, mind chanting a terrible hymn: alone, alone, alone.
Caught between a storm and a fleet of Hunters, Israel Hands is captured by an old friend-turned-enemy. At the mercy of a desperate man, Izzy is forced to choose: what is he willing to sacrifice to keep his Captain -- and his crew -- safe? And what is Stede Bonnet, badly injured and trapped by his side, willing to let him give?

Summary
In the year 1709, as the War of Spanish Succession rages, Jamaica and England's other Caribbean colonies find themselves engulfed by the Spanish Empire, with few allies and precious little resources.
Scion of a powerful Pennsylvanian merchant family, Alexandria Woods is only in the running for a Navy captaincy because her father Augustus registered her as birth as 'his boy Alexander', and intends to prove herself by stamping out the scourge of piracy, or the Spanish - there is little difference in the Commander's eyes.
Countess Clarke Griffin is not your average noble lady, striking out from under her mother's oppressive thumb to seek her own fortune. Already a somewhat renowned physician at Utrecht University, the Bostonian noble wants to prove to herself that she doesn't need money or blue blood to be valuable, and a vacancy on a certain warship might just be the opportunity she's been waiting for.
Costia Greene is a Devonshire orphan with no title, no wealth, and no connections, posing as a man in an attempt to take her fate into her own hands and build a life worth having. The only problem is: whatever life she envisioned, she can no longer imagine without Lexa Woods and Clarke Griffin being a part of it.
