(Y/N) says that it was a gift from her late boyfriend. Later on, Kurapika finds out and revealed to (Y/N) that her "late boyfriend" turned out to be Chrollo Lucilfer and is very much alive. Shocked and feeling betrayed by Chrollo's trickery, (Y/N) retreats and Kurapika felt sorry for her. With Leorio's encouragement, Kurapika asks her out on a date.

He doesn’t even need to look to know that Leorio is opening his mouth in protest. Before he can, he continues “And neither do you deserve me.”Leorio shuts his mouth. Kurapika doesn’t turn to look if he understands. It’s fine. They’re fine. It’s nothing new. This is yet another one of those things he is sure he cannot express in words but to him, it’s a fact.
Just like the sky is blue and birds are silent at night, Leorio and Kurapika do not deserve each other.
