One day, Margaret stumbles on a journal in the woods and discovers that this town is a lot weirder than she initially believed.

“You can’t be expecting me to thank you for lying to me! What on Earth is wrong with you?”
“Oh, come on, that’s the way you’re going to think about it?” Kal says, irritation just under his words. “It was a good story, Dak! It’s certainly impressive that we managed to ensnare an entire country with just our words. Thousands of people were waiting eagerly for the next update!” A pleased smile crosses Kal’s face, only serving to make Dakkar’s own anger rise. “Surely it’s not that embarrassing to you that you fell for it! You’re hardly alone there. And unlike many people, you got something important out of it. Can’t you be even a little grateful?”
“Embarrassing?” The implication that that’s what Kal thinks is what’s bothering him the most hits Dakkar like a screaming wave, dragging him out from the shore and into swirling seas. A world, snatched from him, and the man in front of him had done it with no regret. “The way I’m thinking about it is the only version that makes sense!”
OR
Yeah, there are a lot of words to describe what would go down between Kal and Dakkar on the boat ride over to British Guiana--but none of them are good.
