I have always wanted to write a story where I pushed Tony to the very edge, and then there was not a happy ending. This is my attempt:
Takes place post-Iron Man 3: Tony ended up losing Pepper, even after he gave up the arc reactor and destroyed the suits for her, because a couple of big, dramatic sacrifices don't actually change a guy's whole personality, and suits or no suits -- And arc reactor or no arc reactor. -- he's still an oblivious guy with an addictive personality and severe work-obsession. He leaves Malibu, comes back to New York, but not to the tower, because that's for current Avengers' use only. Once there, he meets up with Loki, banished and powerless after Thor took him back to Asgard to face Odin. Loki is also feeling pretty hopeless.

Arms folded loosely over his chest, Shinguuji doesn’t move. All Saihara can see of his face is vulpine eyes tracing his posture from head to heel down the bed. “Are you certain,” Shinguuji asks, “that you would like to proceed with this?”

The sky was refreshingly clear for a winter’s afternoon, and the truck sailed on uninterrupted by such disharmonious things as potholes or traffic. Unbeknownst to the driver, the truck also carried a stowaway. It was Crack Bear. Crack didn’t know where the truck was going. He wasn’t interested in finding out. All that mattered now was the the sun in the sky, the January wind in his matted green pelt, and the fact that the Discount Zoo was getting farther away by the second.
“We in Vegas yet?” asked Evil, who was also there.
“You can say that again.” replied Crack, not turning away from the trail receding behind him. -
