No matter how hard he tried to not get himself killed, he seemed to get close to the edge an awful lot.
Getting a scepter through the heart was bad enough. Then he got shot up in the framework, the only thing that saved his ass happened to be that it wasn’t real, and they happened to get out just in time, even though those bullets sure as hell had felt real.
Now, after getting back from and surviving all that, he’d gone and got shot again. If he’d only listened to Melinda, he wouldn’t be cold and bleeding out on some warehouse floor, waiting for extraction the day before Christmas. He could have been back up in the air where it was warm, trying to talk himself into asking her- the real her- to join him for a drink later, and maybe if she said yes, and he didn’t manage to mess things up, if she might like to go on a date with him.

Maybe it’s the flannel shirt under the tweed jacket or the thick black glasses he keeps pushing up his nose, or maybe even the way he just seems to love the subject he teaches? The way his face lights up, and the inflection in his tone makes his lecture feel like he was there. Like he walked down the streets of New York City the day the stock markets collapsed. Like he witnessed the signing of The New Deal and could describe the tension in the air between the political parties.

Or, Skye meets an alien and is a terrible influence. Not that anyone could have expected the teenage run-away and cyber terrorist to be a good influence. No matter how much Skye might be trying to help people with those crimes. The chaos does make the world a better place, probably.
