“Hello?” Tommy says.
The stranger looks at the frog in Tommy’s hands. “That’s a beautiful Rana temporaria.”
“I’m sorry, what?”
They grin like they’ve told a joke Tommy doesn’t understand. “Rana temporaria. It’s the scientific name for the common frog.” They gesture to the frog. “It’s got beautiful patterning.”
Tommy looks down at the frog. It’s that weird sort of shade in between green and brown, and there are a few dark splotches scattered across its back. One of them looks a bit like a dick.
He holds the frog out for the stranger to see and smiles. “It’s got cock and balls on its back.”

“You know we’re kind of like otters right now” Tommy said, interrupting his thoughts.
He chuckled but did not turn to face Tommy, instead he allowed them to sway gently in the water with the ebb and flow of the tide. “Yeah? How’s that then?”
“Well otters hold hands in the water so they don’t drift apart which is sort of what we’re doing right now” he pointed out, although Wilbur couldn’t see Tommy he could hear the smile in his voice.
“Yeah I supposed that does make us kind of like otters, you got anymore cool otter facts?”//

Tommy decided enough was enough and took a bite at an exposed section of Wilburs ankle.
“Ow what the fuck Tommy I’m just trying to feed you!” Wilbur said, hopping up onto one foot, holding onto his ankle in pain. Tommy took the opportunity to wrap himself around Wilburs other foot, causing Wilbur to wobble precariously before coming down with a crash.
Tommy hopped up onto Wilburs chest and began pawing at him gently, “you are a fucking menace you know that?” Wilbur asked as he pushed himself into a sitting position.//

In the last seconds before the jam started, Wilbur assessed his opponents. He spotted the usual suspects - George with the striped Pivot helmet cover, Sapnap, and Schlatt forming a tripod, Karl in reserve - but his eye caught on someone he hadn't seen before.
A kid, almost, could barely be past eighteen. He stood separately from the rest of the blockers, dangling, ready to catch Wilbur if (when) he got past the others. Wilbur snorted at the name on his jersey - "TommyInnit".
He locked eyes with startling blue, filled with nerves, and gave the kid an encouraging smile.
The whistle blew.

“Oh come on, Tommy, don’t look so worried.” Grian sees Tommy flinch when Dream drops an arm around his shoulders. The two women coo at Tommy’s apparent nerves. “You’re bound to make mistakes this week, it happens. That’s what I’m here for. I’m your friend, remember.”
“Right. Thanks, Dream.” The timer reaches zero and Grian still can’t look away from the kid. Sylvee ruffles his hair and pulls him along, and Grian can only watch. Something feels… off.
He must stay standing there too long, because Scar is suddenly pulling on his wrist and Grian remembers where he is. Grian smiles, following him over the bridge and into the Dome. It’s not the time to be worried about something other than the games. He needs to stay focused, for his team.

OR: Grian tries to mind his business, he really does. But something about the kid’s hunched shoulders and scared expression pushes him to keep a closer eye on him. As the games continue, Grian gets more and more concerned by what he sees.
