It’s been three years.
Three years since Tommy saw his brother. Three years since he heard his laugh, saw his smile, or even got to talk to him.
Tommy knows that by now, Wilbur would’ve aged out of the system. His eighteenth birthday would’ve been four months ago. Tommy had wondered that day, how he was doing somewhere out there, undoubtedly alone.
The social workers said that Tommy could manifest any day now. Most people receive their hybrid traits before they’re sixteen and Tommy’s birthday was only one month away.
It terrified him, the thought of ending up like Wilbur. Becoming something terrifying, someone that nobody could ever trust, somebody that society said nobody should ever love.

Tommy picks up alien friends left and right to slowly work his way around space to survive. His hell through space does not prevent the affection that his heart still retains and he slowly begins to heal the scars that have been formed from being treated like an experiment, an animal.

The spider guy stares at him, head tilted.
“Who are you?”
Is this guy serious? “I am your friendly neighbourhood Spider-Man,” he says with a flourish. “But I thought you already knew that,” he adds, giving them a suspicious glare.
The other spider guy seems to grow more confused. “That can’t be, you must be lying,” they say, though they sound unsure of their words. “Because I’m-”
Their words are cut off as they begin to glitch.
And no, he’s not joking.
Tommy can only watch in shock as they convulse on the ground, bright colours flashing across their body. It lasts all of a few seconds before it stops, leaving them panting on the ground.
What the fuck?
The spider guy shifts to their knees as they take deep breaths. A hand reaches up to their face and rips their mask off.
Brown fluffy hair sits atop their head and he finds himself looking into a pair of teal eyes. They give a friendly smile, albeit a tired one, and a small wave.
“Hi, I’m Ranboo,” they say, still a little breathless. “Would you believe me if I told you that I’m not from here?”
Yes, he would, actually.

“I don’t care if it’s difficult to explain. Just fucking explain it.” Tommy replied sharply.
“Okay. Just- please don’t freak out and answer everything I say as truthfully as you can.” Wilbur said, voice quiet and nervous.
Tommy nodded hesitantly. “If that’s what it takes for you to stop being so fuckin’ creepy.”
Wilbur sighed again and he began to fidget with the buttons on his coat. “How much do you remember about before the apocalypse?”

Wilbur didn’t know how, but somehow a human had made its way onto the tiny piece of land. He could hear it, yelling and chattering in its strange language.
It was disturbing the peace almost constantly, running recklessly in the water and splashing around carelessly.
Wilbur hissed to himself as he heard the human chattering again overhead, oblivious to the siren in the water nearby.
The fish darted frantically away as the human entered the water and Wilbur hissed again. He was losing opportunities to catch a meal with the stupid human scaring all the prey away.

Tommy couldn’t remember how long he’d been stuck in this cage.
It was made of golden metal, solid as a rock at the bottom before twisting into thick bars made to look like tree branches on the rounded sides. The bars met smoothly at the top, all of the fake branches intertwining together.
He couldn’t remember how long it had been since he’d seen real tree branches either.
His wings itched at even the mere thought of anything outside his cage. The trees, the clouds, the sky, all of it. They fluttered uselessly within their bindings, as if Tommy had any ability to fly away from his prison.

Tommy leaned into the man, he felt small. The man was huge, tough and firm. This was a stranger and yet Tommy was pulling his heart out with his bare hands and letting it stain the snow a deep crimson red.

The man cooed. It was so unnatural sounding in the man's natural gruff but Tommy went weak for it. Nobody had ever...

He whispered.
"Jesus."
The man whispered back.
"Jesus you poor kid...you poor fucking kid oh my god..."
Tommy sobbed harder. Until he couldn't possibly breathe around it. Until his hands and nose tingled so badly that he thought they would disintegrate. His head pounded in an erratic rhythm to match his breath but it didn't matter because he was being held.
"Please kill me. Please...please please let me die."
Tommy begged. Desperate and sloppy and pathetic.
