Akira was sixteen, almost seventeen. He was far from home—far as in a three hour train ride back to his hometown. He was wearing fake glasses for the duration of his probation, keeping his head down, and completing all his tasks even though they all looked like mush and fodder. He was ignoring the prickling paranoia at his neck for the sake of his own safety, because if he acted wrong he could be sent somewhere worse than Tokyo and its grand scheme. So he ignored it, really ignored it, and walked aimlessly until he found a place to sit down.
It just so happened to be a lonely bench in front of a large pond. Lake, more like, in his, mind. It also just so happened to be where the Student Council President was heading. Akira hadn’t planned for that, but it would explain the prickling paranoia.

After a night of horrors foisted over a trapped Morty, it fundamentally changes him. He can no longer look at anything in the same way, rotting from within. And his flaming bastion, a constantly-penitent Rick, ends up steering their relationship into a brick wall. It crashes and splinters into fragmented ache that neither are sure how to clear the rift.
