Gai pivoted on his heel the second he heard the scream reverberate outside the cave. He didn’t hesitate and headed straight for the source. Even when the stone structure began to collapse and an enemy shinobi appeared at the opening of the cave, he didn’t falter in his mission to save his friend, destroying the boulder that would have crushed her in the deep.

Minato could practically hear Sarutobi laughing at him now, as he looked at his new students. He must’ve gotten a great laugh while assigning this generation’s teams. As they started to bicker, Minato could already feel a headache coming on.
He could decimate hundreds of enemies and yet a trio of children somehow have him mentally falling to his knees in despair.
“No,” Kakashi said, his voice muffled between his legs, “you were supposed to be responsible and tell him not to do it again. If it came from you, he would listen.”
Minato looked at Kakashi and realized how young he truly is, with his head tucked in between his legs to hide his embarrassment and small voice disappointed.
Minato’s eyes softened as Obito laughed victoriously, slumping onto Kakashi’s shoulder, and yeah these were definitely his kids, even if they were brats a lot of the times.
But Minato wouldn’t trade them for the world. Even with the war raging on, even with the world throwing its worst at their feet.
Unfortunately for destiny, Team Minato is filled with the most stubborn people in Konoha. And they were determined to keep their family together, no matter what.

The morning Minato arrived earlier than Kakashi for training was not the same morning Minato expected to find his student crouched over and holding an eye in his hand.

Summary
The morning had happened the way it had happened because Minato had followed a tasklist, which had happened because he had followed the shinobi manual protocols regarding the proper procedures to be followed after the death of a teammate. In spite of the fact that it was the last thing he wanted to do, in spite of the fact that he could barely breathe for grief, Minato had created and then followed the tasklist in his head for that morning to a tee.
Sometimes he wondered, in hindsight.
