“Yeah okay, thank you Darryl.” Carol says, swinging her bag over onto her shoulder. “Talk to Mr. Walker about getting a new tutor or something, Close, I can’t work with you.” Glenn sits up quickly.
“What- are you kidding me? You’re ditching me because I got mad you were snooping around in my business? How is that reasonable?” Glenn retorts, angry now. If he didn’t at least have a steady tutor thing going on than Jodie would actually learn to lay off with his grades. Part of Glenn was doing it so Jodie would stop annoying him and part of him was doing it because…well he could see the look Jodie was giving him while reading his report card. Dad wasn’t home, he didn’t give a shit otherwise, and Mom wasn’t answering calls and she wanted nothing to do with them now. Glenn wasn’t disappointed about that, he wasn’t he really wasn’t.

“Uhm…s-sorry, do you um…” The boy stutters and Jodie scratches at the back of his neck. “I have to do a project at uh, at school and I need a book for it.” He explains, the kid is short and he doesn’t look Jodie in the eye. “Do you um, have that here?”
“Books?” Jodie asks, his tone is softer. Glenn tugs at the braids on his hat again. The boy nods. “Yeah, we have that here. What’s the project on?” The kid fiddles with his hands.
“Er- uhm, it’s a science thing about photos? Photo smiths?” Jodie pauses and Glenn gets up from his chair walking over.
“Photosynthesis?” Glenn suggests, the kid lightens up and looks at him.

The Library was just too strong, and Darryl bravely sacrificed himself to save his fellow dads.
Unfortunately (or maybe, fortunately???) the Library liked Darryl's taste a bit too much, and decided that he might be worth keeping around to savor properly.
Darryl is lucky he is lovable for more reasons than his delicious meaty skin.
