“I don’t want anyone to recognize me.” The words manage to slip out of his mouth. A half lie, the truth of the matter yet to be revealed.
I don’t want you to see how young I am, is what he meant to say. However, he can’t say that. Yingxing would never pay him for the thirty minutes they had already spent together. The planned two-hour date would be nothing.
“Don’t be ridiculous. It’s only us.” Yingxing chuckles again, that pleasing noise that he had heard the first time started to sound not so nice.
“There’s kids—” Dan Heng is cut off.
“They won’t remember you.”
Dan Heng agrees to a fake relationship with an older man. He soon finds out Yingxing intended more than a few, simple dates.

It wasn’t until they were halfway across the control zone that Caelus felt far enough away from Asta to breathe again. They leaned against a nearby pillar, instinctively grabbing at the shirt over their heart. Their chest ached. It hurt. Looking at her, at that pretty face, those eyes. It hurt. It stung. She was terribly, horribly beautiful, and Caelus couldn’t stand it.
Their knees started to buckle, and Caelus let the artificial gravity drag them to the floor. Clutching at their shirt, pressing their fist into their chest, breathing hard and staring at the ceiling, their back against the pillar.
They hated her. They wanted to trade their life for hers. They wanted to open her eyes instead of their own.
“Kafka,” they mumbled, through the furious agony that threatened to blind them with tears. They searched for the question they most wanted to ask, and the only thing they could think to say was “why?”
The bustling silence gave them neither mercy nor relief.

With his free hand Ren begins to playfully tug at the hem of Dan Heng’s jeans, fingers curling over the edges and ghosting across the sensitive skin at his waistline. They don’t stop when Dan Heng lets out an uncharacteristic, shocked squeak and slams both of his palms against Ren’s chest in a panicked attempt to sway him, squirming at the touch.
His blush has darkened by several shades when he accosts Ren at a barely-hushed volume. “What part of we’re in public do you not under—christ, are you crazy? There are people outside still cleaning up!”
