Children have been disappearing all throughout Oxford and not a single person seems to have a clue where to even begin to start searching. It doesn't help that the only targets are children no one really has the resources to bother to look for.
But when the latest victim happens to be the best friend of Star Butterfly— the niece of the Oxford college's most generous donator and scholar— suddenly there's a whole lot more eyes (and money) on this mystery.
_____________________Tom has lived in the North his entire life, and surviving in the coldest and most volatile place on earth certainly has its ups and downs. He's seen some strange things while travelling with his family— but rumours of dæmonless children wandering through the snow like ghosts certainly takes the cake. He'd love to stay out of it, but unfortunately his mother has a little too much empathy than is good for her.

Summary
Star had always preferred a life lacking in responsibility, comfortable with letting her mother take care of any of the more daunting tasks within their Kingdom. So, when her twenty-first birthday marks her turn to take on the wand, she is neither eager nor prepared. A failed assassination attempt lands her a one-way trip to Earth for the remainder of her magic training, and her life is uprooted. But maybe this change of scenery isn't so bad.
After everything he's been through, Marco had made up his mind: his third year of college is going to be entirely chaos free. He just wants to finish his studies and move on with his life. And almost being sucked into a vortex by the newest inter-dimensional student isn't going to dampen his spirits. Neither will the fact that she seems to have taken an unnervingly firm interest in gaining his friendship.

This is it. The installment that makes or breaks the series (well, so does S5, to an even greater degree, but I digress). Part 4A pays lip service to a few of the more bearable elements of S4, but it's mostly doing its own thing. Especially the opening, which was difficult to write on many different levels. And then in 4B we see what everyone's favorite side characters are up to and also the multiverse is dying and Star is gravely wounded in enemy territory. Also the series 4 finale is a massive callout post. It'll be a blast, just you wait.
The main thread in this section, though, and especially the first half, is that there is an extremely awful and painful doom coming for everyone in the multiverse, but no one knows it yet or are actively sticking their heads in the sand to focus on other more petty problems. You will sit down and watch them go about their petty little lives while not knowing something bad is going to happen to them, but you know, you know that they'll be totally dead if they don't do something as soon as possible. And so does Toffee.It's a little like being an ecologist in the modern day, to be honest.
