Summary
Vash the Stampede has been tailed before — by bounty hunters, government agents, and would-be saviors.
Nicholas D. Wolfwood is none of those things.
Vash knew from the start that he was being watched. He just didn’t expect to care.

Summary
"And yet it was already weeks in the past. That one day, that one fateful day. The memory was so clear, so detailed. Each breath, each step he had taken, there had never been anything coming close enough to this feeling.
Was it self-hate or just frustration?
Was it the fear of losing him or the grief over a book that had already been closed long ago?"Things don't always go as planned...and sometimes adrenaline makes us make those things even worse than they already are.
Usually, Vash would have been aware of that, would have stopped himself, but he couldn't accept the fact, that he had failed to save Wolfwood...he just had to do something.Or: I was bored, so could this be a canon style written adaption/alternating version in which I make y'all sit and wait to see if Wolfwood survives or not?

Summary
“‘So, what am I s’posed to look out for? Sinners? Signs and wonders? The devil themself, lurkin’ ’round the corner to lure me into a life’a degeneracy?’
The expression of the stranger in white lights up like Wolfwood has presented him with the most wondrous gift.
‘Very glad you asked. Angels, sir! Real life angels! Well, you’re most likely to know them under the colloquial term Plant, but that is so... technical, don’t you think? Unbearably plain. It is divinity made flesh we are talking about, after all!’”
In which some people worship Plants as angels of salvation and Nicholas D. Wolfwood comes to regret not making this particular cult his problem sooner rather than never.

Summary
Wolfwood ignores his gripe. “You’ve been moving weird all day. What happened? Are you hiding an injury? Spill it,” he adds, when Vash starts to speak. Vash shuts his mouth with a telltale click, then lets out a huff, giving Wolfwood a particularly grumpy look as he turns around and begins the tedious process of unbuttoning his duster. Rather than continue to push, Wolfwood folds his arms across his chest and waits. Taps his foot, even. He’s fine with being obnoxious about this, so long as he gets results. Vash very rarely gives unless you needle him a little. Lucky that Wolfwood’s so good at needling.
Finally, Vash drops his arms and allows his jacket to slide to the floor. The cause of his discomfort is immediate evident. White feathers have sprung over his exposed back, the length of his non-prosthetic arm, peeking out from the neck of his shirt. They bulge from his pants, his long, strappy boots. As Vash turns to face him again, Wolfwood sees that quills are even peeking out on his cheeks, unfurling before his very eyes as Vash gives him this incredibly miserable wet cat look, folding his arms across his stomach.
---
Wolfwood helps Vash alleviate a little feather-related discomfort.

Summary
Despite Vash’s babbling, Wolfwood says nothing. He smears bruise cream over Vash’s cheek with a tenderness that is probably unearned, then draws back for the ice pack he previously wrapped in a clean towelette. When he holds it out, Vash bites down on his tongue so he won’t reject the offer out of hand. He accepts the pack with his prosthetic hand.
“...I really hate to keep making trouble for you, Wolfwood.”
“The trouble isn’t why I’m angry,” Wolfwood grunts. He clasps his hands between his knees, now, lacking anything to do with them, and averts his gaze. “There’s always gonna be trouble. You’re such a damn bleeding heart. I know what I signed up for.” His eyes return to Vash, slightly wet along the waterline, a visible crease in his brow, lips downturned at the edges. “You take yourself too damn lightly, Needle-Noggin. I can’t stand it.”
It—
Isn’t the first time Vash has heard a sentiment like that.

While dressing Vash's wounds, Wolfwood reminds him of something somebody important told him once.

Summary
With a wide splay of his fingers, he rests his hand onto Vash's shoulder, firm but easy, like he's patting the flank of a nervous toma. The gesture lifts him up from whatever dreamland he's sunken down into, stirring, half-blonde half-black eyelashes dragging themselves reluctantly upward. Seaglass-blue eyes meet Wolfwood's before any other part of him moves, "Hm?"
He lifts his hand, gives Vash's back a good 'thwack', and says, "Old lady said we could use one of the rooms. You can break your neck down here if you want, but I was thinkin' I'd shoot for a good night's sleep for once."

Summary
Then it’s quiet again as Vash leans back on his hand and just takes the time to look at Wolfwood as he reads. The child sunrise flooding in through the window paints him in warm hues, the pinks, oranges, and golds mixing with his beautiful brown skin to create a stunning tableau. He seems absolutely radiant in the early morning light.
Vash can’t help the way his breath catches at the gorgeous sight now that he’s had the opportunity to really appreciate it. He feels so incredibly blessed to be allowed to witness Wolfwood in all his beauty like this, to have him feeling comfortable and safe enough to be bare and vulnerable even after having a difficult night, to partake in these quiet, intimate moments with him day after day, tomorrow after tomorrow.
How did Vash get so lucky?
•••
Or, Vash and Wolfwood spend the early hours of the morning together since Wolfwood is up earlier than Vash for once.

Summary
“You’re right,” Wolfwood concedes reluctantly, “least we ain’t sick. God damnit.” He claps his hand over his eyes. “Just, don’t—I can’t—you can’t count on me to carry us through this. I’m not—” His lower lip wobbles, and he swallows, hard. “I’m no good with babies.”
Vash is silent after that. Wolfwood doesn’t dare to open his eyes and try and gauge his expression. It’s not like Vash is perfectly intuitive all the time, but he has his moments, and sometimes it feels like he can cut through Vash with a single glance. It’s a quality that Wolfwood has admired in him, from time to time, but right now, he’s not sure he could take it.
“...Should we take her back?” Vash whispers. “If you really think we should—”
“No,” Wolfwood cuts him off, probably too loud, “I said no.”

Summary
The thug crumples. Vash lets out a whistle through his teeth, remorseful. He’s going to have a hell of a concussion later on. But that’s what he gets for shooting up a hospital. You live and you learn, right? Karma is a thing. Or whatever they say. Man, Vash has gotten cynical. He needs to start spending less time with Wolfwood.
Speaking of Wolfwood, the sound of gunfire from upstairs—well, it doesn’t sound entirely one sided. He must be up there. But if the attack has continued for this long, he’s probably in trouble. Checking that his gun is fully loaded, and that his safety is off on both Peacemaker and his arm prosthetic, he starts to mount the stairs once more.
From above: an explosive clattering noise. Not quite like the sound of dynamite, perhaps like a piece of furniture collapsed, a filing cabinet? This is a hospital, after all. A chorus of screams—children’s—and then one that stands out from the rest, not just because it’s a different pitch, but because Vash has never heard it before; that is, not in that way.
---
With Vash still recovering from his grief over July, Wolfwood goes on a mission solo and gets in over his head.

Summary
Wolfwood looked back, staring at where their hands met, eyes barely widening, but expression otherwise unreadable. Vash couldn’t say it, couldn’t bring himself to ask, the selfishness of it stung like bile in his throat. He couldn’t bear to let go, either. Any attempt at words just echoed through the chasm inside him, bouncing back on themselves until it was white noise, pointless and empty and lost. He swallowed. It was late. They were both exhausted, and he was keeping Wolfwood here in the cold.
“…please.”

Summary
While filming a NLBC feature at a plant facility, Meryl and Milly have an unusual encounter. Lunch is provided free of charge.
She gave the roll a little squeeze. “It has rosemary,” she said.
“Could also have heavy metals,” Denny said. “LSD. Little plastic prize toy. This is plant engineering, the only certainty we have is—no certainty. Infinite potential.”

Summary
“I don’t know if it’s even worth getting into this with you,” Vash’s voice slurs, he’s really not in the state for a confrontation right now, “but I’m not in the mood, Legato.”
Legato says nothing. It’s not like him; that guy always has some kind of miserable commentary to make. Vash hears him approach, the click of his heels against the paved ground, and braces himself as best he can, tries to summon enough concentration to—do something, to stand against him, because a man is already dead and more will follow if Vash can’t get his act together…
But the footsteps stop about a yard away from him.
“Can you walk?”

Vash is saved when he least expects it from being assaulted.

Summary
So. It’s a little fun. The way the keys click when Lina presses down on them is satisfying. She finds that the space bar is the most fun to tap, again and again and again, and when the bar gets all the way to the right, she slides it cleanly back over, the way she does in class. Miss Stryfe is an interesting lady, serious yet fun, friendly if occasionally awkward—and Lina likes her. Well, respects her. She has a bombastic temper and doesn’t let men disrespect her, which Lina likes too. She’d like to know more about Miss Stryfe… and it’s kind of fun to sit here tapping away at the keys, imagining that it’s Miss Stryfe here instead, working on whatever it is she types up using this old thing.
That is, until the space bar comes flying clean off. Lina barely manages to suppress a yelp, both hands clapping over her mouth—but before she can do any more than scoop up the bar off the carpet, she hears footsteps approaching the door, then the handle turning.
---
Lina gets caught by one of her new roommates, Meryl Stryfe, while taking a peek at her typewriter.
