And it’s clear the conversation is over then. It leaves Iloorin spinning as Astarion moves away from him, leaving him standing alone. He . . . apparently, he does look as bad as he feels. He hadn’t realized Astarion was paying that careful attention, though. He’s surprised Astarion noticed at all. He’s more perceptive than Iloorin had given him credit for, which isn’t a mistake he’s going to make again — and shouldn’t have made in the first place. Not when Astarion had been watching them yesterday before Iloorin had even noticed him.
Why say that, though? Why say any of that to Iloorin? It was good information to use against him. But he supposes Astation already has; he’s used it to humiliate Iloorin. The feeling — shame — makes him feel sick. Not in his head, but in his entire body. He wants to rip Astarion limb from limb for his pitying tone, his mocking ‘do take care of yourself.’ He thinks that’s a bad idea, but he’s hard pressed to remember why.
He turns around, and in the dizzying movement he remembers. Because he’s not the Urges that kept him up last night. He will not succumb to them.
He won’t.

Funnily enough, getting kidnapped was how Astarion broke from his master's grasp, at least for now. But he's not out of the woods yet. He has to contend with sunlight, paranoia, and worst of all, his hunger. Maybe there's someone out there who's kind enough to take in this poor stray.
AKA Werebears? Where? Men that are bears? It May be More Likely Than You Think! and, Astarion can have a little bit of murder. As a treat.

The only problem with being a vampire is that immortality gets really boring after the first few centuries. Watching humans fight over the same petty reasons is nothing short of entertaining, well, at least to Russell Adler.
But there was something that stirred in his immortal heart when he saw young men and women being shipped off to their deaths because of a petty disagreement between government officials who wouldn’t live to see the end of the conflict.
But as Adler scouted out the carnage and destruction of yet another senseless human debacle, it seemed that the universe was cruel enough to leave a single young blonde-haired and blue-eyed Marine alive.

Vampire Russel Adler had lived far too long, and after finding a young and injured marine called Philip Graves, he decided that he needed an immortal companion, a thrall of sorts, to keep him company in his desolate manor.
