Rook is a Qunari and a mage, having fled the Qun to become a Grey Warden.
As he assembles his team at the lighthouse, Rook meets Davrin, and the two begin a casual sexual relationship; a coping mechanism among Wardens, known for the sake of this story as ’sparring.’ While starting out as a utilitarian, transactional sexual relationship, it turns into a slow burn. Davrin sees the relationship for what it is sooner, and Rook is reluctant to accept that he can be anything more than a casual partner for those seeking out a large person to top them.
The story borrows key dialogue points from the game and builds upon them for the sake of the plotline.
