The walls were beige, but somehow so utterly colorless it seemed infect the windows made everything outside look just as empty as within. On the table, the cold, white, table was a singular green vase with a wilting flower sticking out of the top. A daisy, the only decoration in the whole goddamn place. The house felt like it was dead. No, that was the wrong word, it wasn't dead. It was more lifeless. There are no photos on the walls, no stains in the carpets, no report cards on the fridge, no toys left out on the ground, the house was lived in but it wasn’t alive. He couldn't imagine how children managed to live here without a single sign of mess.
This house was so clean, yet it was making Wilbur feel like he’d rolled around in the mud for an hour. As he turned to leave the kitchen, Wilbur knew that no matter how many showers he took, no matter how many times he changed his clothes, the memory of the frozen house on the top of the hill would stay with him, a timeless, ageless, colorless, nightmare."
