He awoke with a horrified, chilling shriek. The radiation was still sizzling over his skin, still burning into him, still trying to gouge deep into his being and purify him via molecular destruction and reconstruction. Deep down inside of his core was pure ice. All he could do at that point was scream . Distantly, he could hear a voice, but nothing in the universe mattered more than his own death.
"You're safe, Lance." Hunk began, beginning to tell Lance of their situation like Lance had always done for him. "You're in our dorm room at the Garrison." Had Hunk just said they were at the Garrison? What did that mean? How was that even possible?

“Neo jeongmal mulyehaguna...” His face was sour, but Lance knew it wasn't serious from his tone. “You're lucky I love you so much.”
“Yeah,” Lance replied, his expression turning soft and he touched his forehead to Keith's, “I really am lucky...”

Lance struggles to hide his past and current abuse (as well as some other struggles) behind his smile. His friends (Hunk, Pidge, Keith, and Allura) don't know what he has gone through/is going through, but they are starting to pay a little closer attention as Lance's mask slowly cracks.
context: keith ( he met freshman year, befriended sophomore year, but had heard about all throughout middle school) , allura ( he met sophomore year), hunk (who is is oldest friend - known each other since elementary), and pidge ( he met sophomore year as well, just a couple months before befriending keith, and a couple more months before befriending allura)
lance (16) , keith (17), Hunk (16), and Allura (17) are all in their junior year.
Pidge (15) is in her sophomore year.
Shiro (24) is in his last year of college (so not at the school with them).
It is the week before christmas break (which Lance is secretly dreading)
none of his friends no abt his past trauma or past/current abuse or self harm. he also secretly struggles with an eating disorder. -

“...does this weird you out at all?” Lance gestured to his belly. Mouth full of food, Keith swallowed and took a moment to think about what he wanted to say as he sipped his water. He wasn't great with words, but wanted to be honest with his roommate.
“Seahorses.”
“Excuse me?” Lance blinked, confused as to how his predicament was cause for bringing up the marine animal.
“You know how they reproduce, yeah?”
“Of course, everyone does. That still doesn-” That's when it clicked, but Keith explained anyway.
“The males are the ones that have the babies. But that doesn't make them female, or even less male in general.” He went to take another huge bite of his food, but not before Lance caught the small, genuine smile on Keith's face. The Cuban smiled back, though a bit wider, as he realized he would be okay with Keith.

“Yeah, started my birthday with some nightmares. It's great,” Lance halfheartedly joked. He straightened up, expecting a chat with the man. Takakura wasn't the greatest conversationalist, but he always gave his attention.
But Takakura just walked away. No birthday wishes. Not a wave. None of his dismissive grunts. Nothing in the way of literally any sort of acknowledgment.

His gaze shifted to Cyn, who seemed to be watching the interaction from the sidelines. After a moment, she nodded, and the signal was clear to him. Lance’s gaze returned to J, but his expression became annoyed, as if he was caught doing something he wasn’t supposed to be doing.
“Cute…” he muttered slyly, lowering his arms as a smirk grew. He started to push the blade from his neck slowly. “You know why I keep you around, J-?”
He was cut off when J moved her arm swiftly, making Lance’s face slack in shock.
