Listen, the point is, I know your brother and I know you really want him back so how's about you and I work together?"
Bill turned himself upside down to resemble the shape of the portal, then spun himself right side up again.
"You... want to help me fix the portal and bring Ford back?" Stanley squinted, feeling wary of the offer.
"Exactly!" Bill seemed a lot happier now that the conversation seemed to be going where he wanted it to go. "Let's talk, sit down, have a drink!"
Bill snapped his fingers in one hand, causing a can of Pitt Cola to appear in Stanley's hand. He then gestured to the half broken swings.
Tldr; what if Bill visited Stan's dreams in the 80s just after Ford got sucked into the portal?

Summary
Ford fidgeted with a loose thread on his pants, swallowing. “I mean…just practice, you know? We could practice on each other and improve for an actual partner.”
Stan looked at him with wide eyes. “But—I—we—” he sputtered, looking down before looking up at him again. “Ford…we’re brothers.”
Ford forced himself to nod, trying to appear more confident than he actually was about this idiotic plan. “Yeah. Exactly. We’re brothers, so it doesn’t mean anything, right?”
~
After Carla criticizes Stan's kissing, Ford offers to practice with him. This surely won't have any lasting consequences.

Summary
After getting his memory erased to save the town from Bill, Stan quickly regained most of his memories. The odd thing was, that he had begun remembering things that he was sure had not been there before. Memories of people and places that didn't quite fit in with the rest, like a puzzle with extra pieces.
So far he had remembered that after Ford went into the portal, Fiddleford had made a return to the shack. After explaining the situation, Stan and Fiddleford had begun working together to bring Ford back for several years. Eventually, Fiddleford disappeared leaving Stan with no recollection of ever meeting him.
One day, Stan came back to the shack after some stealing some preparations for the twins' return and smiled to see Ford pacing the living room, passionately ranting about something to Fiddleford who sat amused on the sofa.
As Stan stepped into the room and dropped the goods by the door, Fiddleford turned his attention to him.
"Heya, Stanley." Then-Stan recalls a night with Fiddleford for the first time

He knows all he’s gotta do right now is try to cheer Ford on with his words, to convince him that someone out there will love him.
But Stan won’t settle for that. He needs to do something to show Ford that it’s possible.
It is possible for someone to love Ford. He’s the living proof.
And Stan will be damned if some stupid, stuck-up chick is gonna convince his brother that he’s unlovable.

AU where Stan and Fiddleford are the ones thrown into the portal (re-write / more elaboration into their portal journey)
--
Stan peels himself away from Fiddleford. He can't make it far before Fiddleford's hands on his waist stop him, so he pulls back just far enough to get some air between them.He looks up at Fiddleford and sees the man smiling. It's a wild grin, unsteady with nerves. It almost surprises a chuckle from Stan. Almost.
"Stanley Pines," Fiddleford finally says, blue eyes meeting brown. "Don't you ever make me do that again."

So Merlin was in Vegas. Las Vegas. No real reason. Was it vacation? For him, yes. For others? Well, he worked at a grocery store for no real reason other than because he could. So no. But oh well.
One night he sees a strange man in a red jacket trying to get away with stolen food. And, well, who was Merlin to rat him out? And so, it turns out, that sometimes when you do a good thing, good things happen to you as well. Kind of.

Summary
Thanks to the lingering effects of the memory gun, Stan had had a few nightmares of his own since they set to sea—usually in the form of the stubborn memories from his years on the streets that came back to him more sporadically than his more recent memories or those of his childhood: he didn't have nearly as many reminders of those to trigger them.
Each time he had a bad one, Ford would be by his side right away. Ford was the light sleeper of the two of them—his years exploring the multiverse left him always ready to run at the slightest sign of danger—and he would wake up at even the smallest sounds of discomfort from Stan.
Stan had never witnessed Ford in a nightmare.

“But right now,” she continues, and her eyes turn star-like. A deep sense of foreboding sweeps over Stan, as the last time Mabel had made that face she’d ended up making the weirdest puppet opera he’d seen in his life (and he’d seen a few). Or no, he realises, the dread fading away to be replaced with something much more gleeful. It had been a couple days after, when she’d asked about—
“You have to tell us which of you dated Bill Cipher?”
“What?!”
OR: A romantic past with Bill Cipher is one part of his brother's identity Stan Pines is more than happy to give back.

Summary
He watches Ford close his eyes and breathe in sharply, shaking his head in resignation, and Stanley feels all at once a great, revelatory deja vu (he is both thirty-one and sixty-two, staring down his brother just before some intrinsic part of his reality is rewritten) and a horrid, impending sense of doom. Absently he wonders if he’s having a heart attack, if this is what all those late-night television shows have been warning him about for so long, but occam’s razor and murphy’s law are both dear, old friends to Stan and as such, he knows it's instead one of those special laws of the land he’s grown so fond of cursing the past half-century: whatever can go wrong will, and it’s most typically due to the simplest, stupidest shit.
Like Ford being unwilling to swallow his fucking ego for ten damn seconds.
(Or: Stanley confronts Ford about the portal, the rift, and Dipper's apprenticeship.)
