The entire world believed in Soulmates. It was natural with the red strings that were tied around each of their fingers.
Dave was different. He was trapped in his own world. He rarely cared for the string around his finger. It wasn't something he really believed. Once his friend left him to move schools he was a goner. Subject to torment. He just dealt with what his brother did. It was all he could do.
Recovery was difficult. Karkat could barely stomach the thought of it. He had been doing his best, listening to his family drone on while his weight problems really only got worse. He went to therapy every Monday. He hoped he would get better for the sake of his family but he didn't know if it help.
