Zone 2 was once a beautiful zone. But now it is white and pure in some places and corrupted in others--tainted by a false guardian and its wicked envoys. The residential area is the new domain of this false guardian--the behemoth Oculi, he who bears many eyes.

Sam brought his mind back to the task at hand of unlocking the door. But something was in his way. A small cat. The cat looked slightly bigger than a kitten and had bright blue eyes. Sam noticed the front leg of the cat was covered in brown spots that were slightly different than its cream-colored fur. Sam eyed it carefully. The poor thing was soaked and gave him sad eyes. Sam leaned down and gently lifted his hand to the cat's face for it to sniff and make sure he wasn’t going to hurt it. Instead, the cat took its mismatched paw and put it onto Sam’s hand, purring slightly. Sam gave the cat a curious look. That's new. The cat just titled its head.

There isn't much that Mordecai knows about Zer0 - he knows they're an incredibly private person; that they're an insanely skilled sharpshooter and assassin; that they're a bigger nerd than they let on; and that they're not human. They have told him some less personal things, but otherwise he knew nothing about him.
He's never seen them beneath the suit, has no clue if they're even fleshy or if they're just a robot, he isn't even completely sure that they actually NEED to eat. For all intents of purposes, they were a mystery.
He never expected to get the opportunity to learn so much about them in such a short period of time.
So imagine his surprise when he goes to the Sniper tower to find them not only out of their suit, but hidden amongst the pillow's and covers they had in the little cove below the Sniper Nest.

As if on cue, the needle slipped, stabbing into the side of her finger. She barely flinched, wiping the small dot of blood onto her dress and continuing her stitches. Xie Lian’s mother had a hobby of embroidery, though he never noticed her pricking her fingers.
Xie Lian could tell it was not lack of skill that made the girl rush through the stitches, poking her skin as she went. He recognized the disregard for one’s own pain when he saw it, no matter how small.
