Surprisingly, this a fic about an OC that totally caught my heart??? It feels raw and vulnerable and really has a quite interesting look into gender fluidity and how that may be affected by being werewolves! Which is something I never knew I wanted to read until now.
And the weirdest part is that the plot is totally riddled with cliches, but it feels unique and human anyway. We've got generic bullies, weird kid who falls in with the bad crowd, interventions, love at first sight, perfect love interest seemingly liking the main character for no reason, sudden car crash accident, pack politics, but none of it feels like I'm reading some kid's weird experiment with writing fanfiction with plot.
Instead, it feels human and heartwarming and genuinely makes you love and care for these families and characters. My god. I actually like Peter.
AND it's about an OC. Truly a legendary writer.

When faced with new information, Stiles believed in finding out everything he could about it, and the knowledge of his own unimportance was no different. He started by observing, counting the number of people he spoke to each day and whether they met his eyes. With the baseline established, he then began changing variables: self-initiated versus Stiles-initiated, context-based or spontaneous, functional versus social, obligatory politeness versus meaningful interaction.
No one noticed the change in him as he parsed out the categories and wrote out the statistics that proved John Donne wrong. His bones were lighter, hollowing out from the inside until he felt brittle and breakable but weightless enough to fly.

Accurate feeling of depression/social anxiety? Not exactly social anxiety, more the feeling of being depressed about not being seen, remembered, or heard and trying your best to change yourself but not making any differences anyway. I especially relate to writing down statistics about social interactions and realizing no one knows who you are.

Aziraphale is an immortal book collector, and Crowley is his favourite book. When Aziraphale goes off to visit book fairs around the world, Crowley finds his own way of tagging along.

Instead of calling Peter out for turning in the odd piece of homework late or getting distracted in class like they might do for anyone else, they give him pats on the back in hallways and tell him fondly that, “Tony must be so proud of you, following in his footsteps.”
Tony wouldn’t be, though. Not if he knew how much effort Peter was having to put in to keep his head above the water.
He just wants Tony to be proud of him.
He has to work harder - that’s the only way.

Wow this is literally amazing? Best teen interactions ever — it literally feels like all the gettogethers I’ve had. And the fledgling friendship feeling is so strong it makes my heart ache. I haven’t had this kind of strong friendship in a while, it’s almost cathartic to see it written out so crisply.
And the physical interactions are so well done — the way Erica hovers people, the belt loop pull in kiss, tucking feet into Stiles’ side, Danny “shoulders tucked between his best friend’s calves.” They’re so great as imagery and they really give the pack’s intimacy life.
And the character interactions are honestly top-notch, only made more lovely by Stiles’ emotional intelligence and stability. The way he steers through the Lydia situation and Derek’s perfectly characterized asshole-on-accident comments honestly reminded me what good communication needs: empathy and the benefit of a doubt. The group dynamic is perfect, hilarious, and really feels like how teens talk as well.
Also I really enjoyed seeing Erica and Lydia expanded upon (especially how the author actually portrayed Lydia’s quick scheming). -
