Castiel lays Sam’s body among dry wildflowers, pulled from the uncultivated lands surrounding the bunker, along with a few items recovered from his room: vinyl records, a children's football championship trophy, the Stanford admission letter and scholarship award, the collar of a dog named Bones, photos with Dean.
From these, Castiel arranges one or two, strategically chosen from those that, according to his aesthetic taste, are less clear and less worthy of being remembered; because the image of a Dean with a few more wrinkles on his face and graying hair, gazing at the same photos with a serene and nostalgic smile, is the only anchor he can hold onto as he sprinkles Sam’s body with salt and gasoline, before striking the match against the back of the box. -

Summary
So I decided to rewrite Sam's experience in the cage from season 11. I added a little bit of spice.
I also suck in writing summaries. I promise my fanfic is better than it's summary.
Instead of Dean and Castiel showing up early to save Sam from Lucifer, they show up later. After Sam gets beaten up, Lucifer decides that he isn't done with Sam yet. So he makes Sam experience far more things. Memories from his time in the cage before plague his mind. Eventually the boys are able to get out and go back to bunker, where Dean takes care of Sam. He's going all Mother Hen on Sam, but Sam couldnt care less, happy to just have his brother by his side.
