He’s balancing on the ledges of the flooded sandbox with his arms out, trying not to fall when a familiar looking red, blue and yellow ball bounces over the ledge and lands in the water with a splash. It bobs on the surface of the water, floating around before finally settling in the middle.
“Oh no!”A whiny voice exclaims, sounds of gravel crunching beneath little light up All-Might themed velcro sneakers getting louder and louder, “My ball…”
Katsuki points at the ball, “That’s yours?”
The kid— he has dark green curly hair, sparkling eyes and cool little dots scattered across his face, concentrated on the bridge of his nose and his cheeks. Katsuki doesn’t know what they’re called and it pisses him off.

“Kacchan-” Izuku started like he didn’t believe Katsuki could overwrite that. But Katsuki could do anything, Izuku had always said so.
So Katsuki kissed Izuku. Then kissed him again.
Again, and again until Izuku’s lips were finding his just as frantically. Until Izuku was using his grip on Katsuki’s face to pull him in closer, until Katsuki’s hand slid away from Deku’s eyes to thread into dirty green curls.

“Nerd.” Izuku couldn’t read the look on his face, which was locked in an angry scowl - presumably had been since they were fourteen. He swallowed hard, standing a little straighter, physically straightening his spine in an effort to remember his metaphorical one.
“My name is Izuku. Use it.” He winced internally at his sharp tone, but it couldn’t be helped. He hadn’t been in any way prepared to come face to face with his middle school bully, childhood crush, and gay awakening today. He could be forgiven for not being at his best.

Katsuki broke away, turning his back to pace the space between the trees.
“I don’t understand you. Isn’t this what you wanted? Family? Clan?”
Izuku’s stomach roiled with both of their anger and uncertainty. He rested a hand over his abdomen, pressing gently at the flesh as if that would somehow soothe it.
“I want freedom,” he said, squeezing his eyes shut as heat built in his body. He wondered if he was going to vomit. He’d never done it before, but he’d seen it happen and understood in the abstract it was something that he might also experience someday, now that he was human. “I want safety.”
“What’s safer than a clan in a remote mountain village accessible only via fucking dragon?” Katsuki was pacing back towards him now, the paint on his face and the dying summer light making him look dangerous and wild. Or maybe that was the rage in his eyes. “What more could you ask for?”

The violence at home shaped him into more than a beast than a person, relying on his instincts and others' fear to make it by. Weakness was to be eliminated by all means necessary.
He makes his way through life like a meteor, burning through obstacles and landing himself a place at an esteemed Police Academy. He only realizes the consequences of living the way he has when an incident leaves him powerless, something he hadn't thought possible, and begins the painful journey towards recovery.
Izuku was raised on the belief that no matter what he did, it would never amount to anything. His mother never believed in him, his father out of the picture, the only person who believed in him was himself.
A victim of bullying, life took its time tearing apart his dreams, his hope, until he was left with nothing. He hides away at home, taking better care of his potted plants than himself. After an incident he begins seeing a therapist, and bumps into a childhood friend he thought he'd never see again.
