“I’m sorry, Emily..” Mike whispers under his breath, his voice cracking as he pulls the trigger and shoots Emily in the eye. Her scream is cut off as she slumps against the wall, her mouth hanging open and her blank, lifeless gaze staring up at the ceiling.
Her body twitches one last time, letting out a gasp, the last breath from her open mouth before she stills completely. Emily’s blood is splattered on the wall behind her, leaving a grotesque sight that is hard to look at.
Eight friends go out to Blackwood Mountain, only six come back alive the next morning.

... all of the survivors were gathered. Everyone but c00lkidd, who huffed and knocked his feet together on the couch in front of the fireplace.
‘They never let me in on the meetings! Noli calls it “adult talk”, but I help in the rounds just like the rest of them!’ c00lkidd complained internally, staring in the direction where everyone is hidden behind the wall.
Suddenly, c00lkidd had an idea! As quietly as possible, he hopped off the couch and steadily made his way to the said wall. ‘Maybe if I’m sneaky enough, I can listen in!’ the bright red-skinned child thought confidently.

Summary
Matt makes it out of Blackwood Pines alive, only to realize his life can't ever be the way it was, not for him or anybody else. Everybody's hurt, some more obviously than others, and some more willing to accept the fact than he is. Everyone copes (or doesn't) in different ways. Emily makes herself scarce, Jess insists she doesn't need to get better, Chris channels his grief into anger and then silence, and nobody knows what's happened to Mike.
Matt wants to get better. He just has no idea how.
