After losing Elektra twice, Matt knew more than ever that he needed to continue to confront his darkness, but with light in front of him to guide him. Since Foggy and Karen both knew, he could sometimes speak at the office about his nighttime activities. But they both were always more concerned about his physical wellbeing than his mental battles. And with all the lies and hurt between them regarding his second occupation, it not only remained an awkward topic but reminded them of past pains so he didn’t like to bring it up much. Claire had stepped out of this part a long time ago and Father Lantom was no more. And the young woman from the street – Roxanne was her name as he learnt during his research on her – had said she would not expect explanations. He would learn that that was maybe not entirely true, but she would never push, only give.

This takes place just after Layton and Melanie have made their announcement to the train that they are giving everyone the freedom to choose their own future. Just like in canon, Melanie makes her way back to the engine to find out what Ben plans to do.
Her fear turns to joy, joy turns to sorrow, and in the end she comes to accept--that there is balance in that.
